Being 4th in league GPG and goals the last four years isnt worth 7.5 million?

Scoring in just 4 of our 20 games certainly isn't.

Im not so sure he has full strength back in his shoulder yet.

He used to have a truly dynamic wrist shot. Lately its just, meh.

I personally feel that far too often Gaborik's struggling gets blamed on a suggested/alleged physical health concern... I think it's more likely that the source of his ineffective play has to do with whats going on between his ears....

Even though most goal scorers are streaky, this is unacceptable in NY, lol.

His shot totals are down just the slightest bit from last season and people act like he's completely non existent out there.

Anyone arguing about his production is insane. He's frustrating because of his flaws, not his production. You are your skillset.

Want my personal opinion? They have to stop passing so much, and start shooting and keep moving.
The problem on the PP is movement (or lack thereof). Watch the other teams, particularly those with decent PPs or better, e.g. above league average. Only one player stays put, and he's in front of the net. All 4 other players change position, slide up and down the boards, rotate, etc. It makes the PKers work hard, and opens them up to blown coverages. The Rangers stand in their little 6' x 6' boxes at their 5 positions and try to pass it around everyone on the other team and into the net. And so they're easy to scout and plan against.

Since this has been true since I've been watching the Rangers regularly (going on 13 years now), it has to have been infectious between a) player evaluation and b) coaching philosphy. Whether under Renney or Torts (don't get me started on Trottier...), we have disdained the point shot and the coordinated net attacks that other teams use with success, and we have assembled a team which lacks the people to execute those strategies.

One thing I did notice on Sunday night was that the PP really moved after Richards got hit by Kaleta and had to miss a few shifts. I'm not a Richards hater, but I do think it might be time to try some other guys out there for the PP for a while and make Brad earn his way back on with creative play. Maybe some of the younger guys will be willing to skate hard to make something happen. Too bad we can't have two Hagelins and two Callahans out with DZ on the PP.

Is Gabby going to show up tonight? I'm not usually one to complain much but I find myself becomming increasingly frustrated with his lack of effectiveness and impact on the Rangers 5 on 5 play....

All things considered the Gaborik contract was a slam dunk. He was hardly ever injured and has potted a ton of goals. that being said, there are better fits than him.

I would only trade him for the right return. An example would be if we could acquire Corey Perry. The result is we get a guy (who hopefully will resign with us - let's face it, its the Rangers, everyone wants to play in NY ) who can put up goals like Gaborik and also fits in the system better, and is younger.

I would also be very proactive on the Richards front. I think the best best would be to either do one of two actions:
1) Buyout Richards and sign Getzlaf this offseason.
2) Buyout Richards and take a stab at the 14' class with Malkin and have a contingency set up.

Point is he has to be the target of the compliance buyout, by 2014.

Those acquisitions of Simmonds and Voracek are looking like incredibly good moves for the Flyers... I would trade Gaborik if we could acquire a player of similar value (to Simmonds/Voracek) in return. Gaborik is not a good fit for the Rangers come the post-season, that's for sure.

Gabby firing off some good shots right now...wish he would take the slapshot more often, he really has a bomb.

if the right move comes along he has to be moved. I'm a big fan of Gaborik, but he's just can't sustain the type of play this team and system requires...

he's a ghost out there...

I don't want to move Gaby at all, at least until after this season, but if he were to be moved I would love this deal that a Sens mod offered: Zibanejad, Greening/Smith, Gonchar/Wierchioch. That'd be a great deal for us.

He's been better the last 2 games, (3 assists, 2 on the power play), he's just not scoring like he can.. Wait until he starts to score again and see how this team plays.

He's also been more noticeable. Even though he didn't bank one in, I liked seeing him taking shots. I'd prefer him taking 20 shots then to see DZ attempt even 1.

I don't understand the idea that the system holds Gabby back. Didn't they play a similar system last year? When he scored 40 goals?

There are four guys tied with 7 goals on the team, then 5, then 4, etc.

Its called depth. We arent used to it.

Sure, his contract is 7.5, but as we have seen from him in the last three years, he is a streaky player and will start potting them.

I hope our playoff berth comes down to one game, to which I can say, Gaborik had 3 GWG, so technically he won the game for us. 3 GWG out of 7 total. Sure, its 20 games, but I have total confidence in him per his history.

Reeling from surgery? Who knows.

I was thinking having Nash on the team was going to relieve some of the pressure on Gaborik to be the main goal contributor and also free Gaborik up to go against lesser defensive pairings.... Thus far this has not been the case.... If I'm the coach of an opposing team I'm not too concerned about Gaborik being on the ice at the moment and that's a problem/concern. He's been contained fairly easily by opposing defensemen - especially when we play the Penguins which is really frustrating.
