At his peak, Hamrlik might have been a top-pairing defenseman. So, no, I'm not talking about the waiver wire addition.

Just wanted to clarify. The previous 5+ posts were all about Hamrlik so I wasn't sure if you were chiming in on that discussion, or just posting a random post in the thread.

More so a response to anyone and everyone concerned with addressing wing when we have a logjam at center, which is easily converted to wing, and a HUGE void at defense, which is the most critical position in the league.

With Gross going down, it seems a trade with St Louis is becoming more likely...

Non-regular East scouts for LA-STL: OTT PHI MTL TBL WAS TOR

It won't happen at all, but Briere + 1st for Piety or Shattenrik please. Time for Paul to pull out the dirt he has on the Blues he has been saving all this time.

With Nashville's pitiful offense, I'm thinking that Holmgren could swing something around Ellis or Blum. Unless, of course, Weber is fed up and wants out.

Funny, Rinne imploded last night by being left out to dry and guess what? The same **** would happen to even the best of goalies if they are left out to dry.

The Flyers have been so desperate for defenseman, that they may claim him. It depends on whether or not they think someone else is attainable. But Holmgren doesn't like moving people off the roster via trade during the season.

Nevermind that whole Weber can't be traded until July minor detail.

Shhhh

If management lets this go and chalks it up to a **** season, then so be it... we better do something this offseason. The effort is inconsistent...

I agree but lets face it, to get a young stud dman we're going to have to give up a Couturier or Brayden. Are we willing to do that? The more I see this defense, the more I'm leaning to yea, **** it.

I agree, The D has been suspect, minus 3 folks - of these 4, Coburn, Kimmo, Grossmann and Schenn, which is a good top 4. But someone lets us down of those 4, which comes down to consistency.

The more I watch these guys, the more and more I am wondering is they really have tuned Lavi out. I like Lavi (80%) of the time...

As professional athletes you'd expect them to be better, esp given the pedigree we have on the team.

I am just about to say **** it myself and not watch anymore. At least until the playoffs, if we make it....

Cowen is probably not going to be better than Coburn.
If we were to hypothetically get Lehner, he would not be Bryz's backup. Bryz would no doubt be bought out. He should still be bought out regardless. The guy is a joke. I can't fathom him being here for 7 more years.

Cowen will be a Coburn like player with the potential to be even better due to his improving offensive game. He's younger and under team control. Much grittier player as well. Could develop into a number 1 or a top end # 2.

I would give anyone but G/Wayne Train/Vorabeast to get OEL. He is what we need. Yandle would do as well. A PHI/PHX trade NEEDs to happen.

I know it's Homer and he doesn't take any truth serum, but these quotes are at least good to hear....

Quote:
“We’re probably like a lot of teams, looking around for something that makes sense for now and the long term,” Holmgren said. “But we think we have a good group of young players that we prefer not to mess with.”
Quote:
“It’s hard to evaluate, you get the injuries everyone is dealing with, it’s though,” Flyers GM Paul Holmgren told ESPN.com on Tuesday. “For sure you don’t want to do anything that hurts anything long term.”

I think OEL and Yandle would cost too much. I don't think that highly of Yandle anyways. I think we should target Gormley or Runblad instead. In the off-chance we could trade for OEL, I would include Coburn in a package for him.

I'm attempting to offersheet OEL to a massive contract if he isn't resigned (he may already have been, no idea.) That is a guy worth giving up draft picks.

I think something around Read, Mezz and 2nd might get a sniff at Yandle. He makes over 5 mill, that is alot for Phoenix.

I don't think acquiring Yandle would offset what it takes to get him. To me he is what Carle could have been if Carle actually had a shot. I rather use the assets that it would take to get Yandle on a diff d-man.

True, but any top D man requires guys we dont want to part with. I think Read is very appealing to Yotes, and Yandle will come at a cheaper price imo.

Maybe try Read, Coburn, Gervais for Yandle and Rundblad ? Gives us 2 puck movers, 2 Def guys ( Luke, Gross)

Yandle-Kimmo
Luke-Gross
Rundblad-Mezz

I know it's a big thing to give up, but the idea of Couts + Coburn for Shatty + Oshie might be fair. It was mentioned in the trade section.
