With Ribeiro and bouillion both signing for just under 2 million, and looking at what the arbitrators awarded York and Briere, I wouldn't have been suprised if he was awarded closer to 3 million.

I wonder what Gainey said to him and his agent to get him to agree to this deal???
we're gonna sign you for 6 millions/year, 10 years contract next year

Interesting. Ryder and Ribeiro were drafted the same year, Ribeiro in the 2nd round and Ryder in the 8th. In 1998 Ryder was considered a very long shot to make the team, yet in 2006 Gainey was willing to pay him $300K more than Ribeiro to avoid arbitration. It clearly shows that Ryder has greater market value than Ribeiro.

And hèll get his multi-year contract when it comes to time to give him one. Right now though... therès no point to giving him a multi year contract, when hès RFA. He can be paid properly every year.

IMO if hès truly a UFA a year after next, hèll get his multiyear contract next off season.
Hès a third year player for god sakes!!!

And furthermore... think about this. If he signed a multiyear 3 year contract when he first signed up to the pro contract that originally played for us with... It wouldve been a better deal than Tomas Plekanecs $454,000 contract.

Mikey better be thanking his lucky stars that he has fair employers. Not no ******** free money center... but a fiscally responsible organization that is much bigger than the name, or the number on his back. **** man, we were winning cups in 73...
Giving in to a one or 2 year player to a huge contract that is multi-year... well, thats just flat out dumb, unless said player has shown the best hockey they can possibly play (and even then its still dumb half the time).

Ryder if he has a great year... should be tendered a 3 year, 10 million dollar deal.

C'est pourquoi Campbell ne visait pas une entente à long terme cet été.
That's why Campbell (his agent) didn't want to sign a one-year deal.

Why? He hasn`t proven yet he can play like a hockey player. Let`s see if he can repeat that 30 goals this year, but more importantly be a more well-rounded player and then consider it. Young guys like Ryder, you don`t have to offer them anything big yet, you can`t lose them anyway. There`s no rush.

I agree, but I don't see the point.
