If Nonis is seriously considering a top centre, and dangling Kessel .. What are realistic targets?

I can really only think of a Duchene in terms of relative equal value .. Everything else, IMO, would be a good, but not elite, young centre + for Kessel ...

Giving the depth of wingers the Leafs have, it's not a completely outrageous idea
Nicklas Backstrom.

I would do it. Similar offensive output but Backstrom plays the more important position. Don't know if Washington would be interested but that is the type of trade I would include Kessel in.

Lupul - Backstrom - JVR
MacA(?) - Kadri - Frattin

Komarov - Grabo - Kule

... Deal Bozak to a team like Vancouver, possibly for a first?

Sign me up. Can Lupul or JVR play the right side? I think Lupul can.

Yeah I think Lupes can

I'd still like to deal MacA .. He's been on fire lately, but he's just so damn hot and cold .. And when he's cold he's pretty useless

Maybe swap MacA for Clowe?

JVR - Backstrom - Lupul
Clowe - Kadri - Frattin
Komarov - Grabo - Kulemin
Orr - McClement - McLaren

... I'd still like to add a third line winger, as I feel Komarov would be more effective on the fourth line, especially in the playoffs .. His offense still needs to be developed at this level and currently he doesn't score enough for a third line checking role

potential #1 C's

looking at the market of #1 cs for potnetial trade or Fa the only ones i could really see happening are these:

FA:
Ryan Getzlaf-long shot but perfect
Stephen Weiss-doable but wouldnt make us a cup contender

Trade
Paul Stastny-Colorados overload of centers could become useful for T.O as this play-making american would fit well with Kessel.
Niklas Bakstrom- huge longshot but would be amazing and maybe the struggling caps want to mix it up.
Coutoure/Pavelski- Also a long shot but San Jose is heavy in centers and may look to deal one if they struggle.
Colin Wilson- Another long shot but if Nashville looks to trade him he would fit very well in T.O.
Krejci/Bergeron- With the emergence of Seguin Boston may look to trade one of these big skilled centers.

Any of these guys would be a good fit, but i dont really see any of these happening except Stastny. If we cant get this done either we hope Kadri becomes and all star center, or Bozak emerges as a good heart and soul top line center, or maybe big joe colborne on the marlies breaks out... But the most likely conclusion seems like Stastny or the possibility of drafting a guy like Barkov, Monahan or Lindholm.

Colin Wilson is not a #1 centre.

Agreed.

If Burke and Nonis felt he was, he would have been here instead of JVR.

Stephen Weiss is a glorified Tyler Bozak. I'll pass.

IMO Getzlaf will probably stay with the ducks. I would absolutely love to trade for Backstrom and i would rather matt Duchene than stastny, but i don't see Colorado giving him up.

lolwat

Kadri is proving to be better than half the guys you listed.

Getzlaf/Backstrom would be unreal but will never happen.

Would love Johansen from the Jackets. Would be the perfect compliment to Kadri as the top 2 Centres. Would probably take a lot to make it happen though.

Another very interesting one is Brad Richards, i know he just signed but he would obviously be great and New york fans are already throwing him under the bus.

Stastny seems the only trade candidate that could pan out. But I don't know how confident I am about him being the answer. I think basically we have to plan on drafting a good one and bringing him along intelligently. Spend assets to move up in the draft if necessary, not on players like Weiss.

I have always been a fan of Statsny and I think his drop in production is ENTIRELY due to the fact the avs have given him no support opting to give the best wingers to ROR and Duschene Leaving Statsny with scraps.

Put Statsny with Kessel and JVR or Kessel and Lupul and watch what he does.

JVR Statsny Kessel

Lupul Kadri Clarkson/Horton looks like a solid top 6 to me
