B.Richards to Toronto

I know some Rangers fans wouldn't mind dealing him. Would something around Grabovski+ make sense? Two struggling centers with bad contracts. Grabo would look good with Gaborik IMO.

Brad Richards said that he had no interest in going to Toronto when he was a UFA, why would he waive his NTC to go there now?

He didn't say anything like that. Not that we want him now anyway. This is one contract New York will regret. But I've said that a number of times but Sather is just too lucky.

He's never said that to my knowledge.

You wouldn't take your chances with Richards between Kessel and Lupul/JVR?

NMC.
But honestly,
Grabovski, Kulemin, MacArthur

For

Richards, Boyle, 2nd

I'd be interested there...

Don't do the Rangers contract favors. They already lucked out with Gomez (not saying Richards is on that level...), but yea. Let them live with their ridiculous contracts.

We do have a buyout you know - and through the magic of cable vision that contract will disappear upon his suckage

ya i would be down for that trade, although losing Mac would hurt i think this trade makes us better. Boyle is also a key piece to that deal.
I see these trades helping both teams, but i think Richards would be really good between Lupul and Kessel.

Grabovski might be a million overpaid. But you can't fault the guy's effort every night. He gives it his all. Remember, he's a C who also suffers from not having a legit finisher on his line.

He's getting crap from fans now because of the contract he signed, but I firm faith that with a legit finisher on that line you'll see Grabovski's true worth.

Richards age and contract don't suit our team and direction.

How many chances will the Leafs get at a legit first line center? There's nobody availabie in the foreseeable future. Getzlaf to Toronto is very slim. These guys are never on the market. Buy-low. I'm not hating on Grabo, I like the guy but Richards is an upgrade.

I'd have to wait to see how the Getzlaf situation plays out before making a move for a high dollar center like Richards.

Not entirely certain that would actually help the Leafs.

Done. We need a 1C, and shedding all that cap at the same time is a huge bonus. We could roll out:

JVR-Richards-Kessel
Lupul-Kadri-Frattin
Komarov-Bozak-McClement
Orr-Boyle-McLaren

The pick ontop of it is just gravy for me.

We would even be able to offer Anaheim 1st 2013+Finn+Percy for Perry and still have the cap to give him a blank cheque.

I think we would be buying reputation, and ignoring present day reality. At 32 Richards' best years are behind him. Give Grabo a scoring winger, as Dark Knight suggests, and his production probably improves significantly. I know it's frustrating--you're right, #1 centres don't grow on trees--but this is the wrong guy at the wrong time.

Over the two previous seasons seasons, prior to this one, Richards has 143 points in 154 games. That's not exactly 5 years ago. Grabovski is not a pass first, playmaking center. Had he been, he would have been put with Kessel years ago. I'm not sure the scoring winger argument holds up.

Oh God!

That's practically our secondary offense for a guy who is slumping crazy and is signed for a killer contract until he's washed up.

Pass. He can remain with his idol Torts.

Rangers aren't trading Richards PERIOD, because of the new CBA if he retired before his contract expires, WE are responsible for his cap hit. Rangers would buy out Richards AFTER next season or they will keep him because he's performing. Richards being traded simply won't happen, he will at least be a Ranger for a year and a half.

NYR should deal Richards. He is expensive and looks disinterested. Im sure TOR can get him for a fair price.
I think he would look great in the Blue and White but I would force the Rangers to take salary back.

While I suggested that deal, and I like it in terms of what it does with NYs secondary scoring, the cold hard fact is Richards has a NMC that I think the probability of him waiving is extremely low, Realistically, he will be kept until his play deteriorates to an unbearable level and then bought out using our 2nd compliance buyout.

After that trade though the Rangers are much deeper - with 3 scoring lines:

Hagelin-Grabovski-Gaborik
Kulemin-Stepan-Nash
MacArthur-Miller-Callahan
Powe-Halpern-Pyatt

Brad had his chance to play for the Buds, but he turned them away over a pittiable amount of money. Brad and Glen must live with their tragic decision whatever the results!
