He has been average defensively and is just a slow skater.

But he is a BEAST at blocking shots and on the penalty kill. Plays a physical game.

Murray is still a good player but the Sharks are loaded with defensemen and we need more offense, we don't really need him anymore.

Shattenkirk is definitely untouchable at this point

Things started turning sour far before the injuries took place. The Backes hit on Huskins was the turning point for this team this season. Even with injuries you can't take that excuse on blowing a 4-1 lead in the 3rd.

He's a black-hole possession-wise. He's still a physical force, a pretty good player, and a real warrior when it comes to blocking shots, but he has null-o offensive skills, is possibly the slowest skater on the team (on a team that has Ryane Clowe, Michal Handzus, and Joe Pavelski, that should say something), and has a problem with dropping his stick all the time.

But any defenseman who plays with him spends their time trying to cover both sides of the ice constantly while Murray runs around aimlessly trying to hit people. He's so bad, he's got a significant portion of HF Sharks fans convinced Justin Braun is a bad defenseman, when in reality he's floundering only when playing with Murray because he's so busy trying to clear the net, guard two forwards on the cycle, get the puck, and make a strong oulet all on his own, and he's actually doing pretty decently at it.

I've been looking at his With/Without splits, and literally the only players who can stay above water in possession when playing with Murray are Marleau and Couture. As for Braun? When he's together with Murray, they put up a dreadful 43 Corsi for percentage. When Braun is with anyone else but Murray? He puts up a 55%.

You don't want Murray. I'm done pretending he's an NHL defenseman, because he's not.

If we sign Lehtera, then that could potentially open up us trading a center without needing one in return.

I'd love to get Perron or Oshie on SJ.

I'd probably mull over MDZ for Berglund/Serviceable dman. Otherwise, it wouldn't work.
MDZ has outproduced Berglund and is a defender. No way Slats does this.

With the Sharks starting to win again DW wouldn't trade either, but I would definitely do Perron+ for Pavelski.

As in the other thread, I would love to see a deal around Perron and Thornton.

Backes pretty much admitted he wanted to be on the Kings anyways....

What do you want for him from us?

In the end, I don't think I'd do it either.

However, adding a young centerman with great size and good skill like Berglund is pretty intriguing. The Rangers haven't had a player like that in...I honestly couldn't tell you. They don't come around all too often. So, if the option is available, I'd like to see Sather inquire. Doesn't look like the Blues will be able to move a center for a defenseman, though, so the discussion is pointless.

I don't know, the Blues are still a great team that is just struggling a bit so far this year. It will turn around. You just ran up against a team that has your number again tonight. I still you guys making the playoffs.

Too much talent to blow up your team and too much success to do anything drastic. Patients is all you guys need.

Buffalo would overpay for Backes, he's exactly the guy we need.

Sekera+Stafford, maybe add a pick.

Kopitar or Carter...One or the other would have to be coming back for us to trade our captain and #1 center.
