per Renaud Lavoie, St. Louis has signed Yannick Veilleux.

Quote:
Blues: Yannick Veilleux 2013-14 $550 000, 2014-15 $600 000, 2015-16 $625 000 +$250 000 SB (2 way)
Veilleux, 20, was a 4th round pick, 102nd overall of St. Louis in 2011.

Anyone got a scouting report on him? Signing a kid from the Q who was born in QC doesn't look good...

I wouldn't read too much into the geography on this one. From what I can see they must have a scout (Or scouts) in the Q they really trust because they've drafted players like Gormley and Melindy from there.

Blues confirm the signing of Veilleux and also sign Joel Edmundson.

Quote:
St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced the club has signed defenseman Joel Edmundson and forward Yannick Veilleux to three-year entry level contracts.
Edmundson, 19, has appeared in 60 games between the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) Moose Jaw Warriors and Kamloops Blazers this season, combining for 25 points (9 goals and 16 assists) to go along with 133 penalty minutes.
Quote:
The Brandon, Manitoba native was drafted by the Blues in the second round (46th overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft.
Quote:
Veilleux, 20, has appeared in 58 games with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s (QMJHL) Moncton Wildcats this season, recording 65 points (30 goals and 35 assists) to go along with 94 penalty minutes.

I actually posted about him on page 2. The Blues are working on it, but they have to get clearance from his Czech Elite team, even though he's already playing in North America.

Strickland tweeted about it again today

Is he the son of Patrice or no relation?

From the article on the Yotes website, it's unclear. But from the way the Yotes traditionally have taken sons of NHL players, it's likely.

"Like his father, Brisebois started his hockey career as a forward. Unlike his dad, he switched to defense at a key stage in his development."

Maybe they are related, but I can assure that Mathieu isn't Patrice's son.

That's a contradiction. If anything , drafting Melindy would be a reason not to trust a scout. Not only has he been a disappointment but he's been downright horrible this season. And I'm a Wildcats fan..

Um - OK. Didn't know that. But they've drafted players from the Q before so there must be a scout back there somewhere they listen to on draft day.

They drafted Melindy because Gormley was there and they watched him a lot and thought Melindy would be able to carry the mail on his own. In his first full year, he hasn't been able to do it. And from what you're saying, it's been rough. But I think the Yotes brass expected Melindy to get a lot of exposure in a lot of situations in Moncton, so they took a chance on him in the 3rd round.

This was our new Amateur Scouting Director, Rick Knickle's first draft, and they probably reached on the 2nd (Martinook) and 3rd (Melindy) round picks. But for both, they had reasons why they thought these guys would be good fits to the farm system.

Judging by the way you describe the situation here it sounds like a good gamble. It's not something I would do with a first round pick but the third round was a good place to roll the dice.

The draft is an educated gamble. Sometimes "rolling the dice" pays off and other times it dosn't. This one didn't. You would have thought a better risk free option in the draft would have been a guy like Travis Brown who actually went in the 5th round. Even Ryan Culkin was a much safer option and was close by.

Per Rich Nairn, Phoenix Coyotes director of communications

Quote:
#Coyotes have signed forward Darian Dziurzynski of the Portland Pirates (AHL) to a two-year entry-level contract.
Dziurzynski, 21, was a 5th round pick, 141st overall of Phoenix in 2011

Darian is David's little brother. I've searched around and all the stats I've found indicate Darian is between 2 and 3 feet (EDIT: INCHES omg) smaller and a few pounds lighter.

But really, that's all I know!

You're ahead of me, up until compiling this the list in post 2, I never knew there was more than one Dziurzynski!

That is really small!

Nice to see someone finally break the dwarf barrier though. Like a tiny Jackie Robinson. A hero.
