Drouin isn't small so much as he's not big. Listed at 5'11" 185lbs on elite prospects. If he grew an inch and added 15lbs, he'd be a perfectly average size for an NHLer.

Ya I know he isnt small, I would love to have him in Buffalo. The thought of Barkov intrigues me so much at the same time, ppg pace as a 17 year old and one of the youngest players in the league. Future all situations #1 center who is a physical beast.

Adding another high end center prospect would be a luxery, not really necessary though.

i call them idiots out of my general distaste for a majority of the roster. obviously they are going to try to win. doesn't change the fact that i don't want them to win.

While I would love to get a top prospect, I want this team to win. I want to see this team start to develop. The Sabres already have some top notch prospects, and with their drafting, I'm sure they'll get another nice prospect in this draft. I also believe Regier is going to get some picks at the trade deadline. Moving up is a decent possibility, imo.

I still think they'll end up with a top 5 pick, so I'm numb to wins and losses right now, but I want progress!
did you read the thread title?

We'd draft 5th right now, based on win%.

I think chaining a series of wins together would be slightly more palatable from previous years because of the coaching change, at least. At least that's one element that's changed from previous years of this incredibly frustrating "Decent start of season FAIL FAIL FAIL oh but WAIT 9th."

Yeah the staff change coupled with some sort of win streak helps. It makes things seem brighter. I hope somehow that a sense of a better attitude comes in with Rolston, and it could help the team with the winning attitude.

Tampa won too, even though I don't think they are contenders for a top pick, they have been struggling badly lately.

After tonight, we'll be in line for the 3rd pick based on win%.

Easy decision there: whatever's leftover from Mac/Drouin/Jones. Or trade up, if we wanna be picky.

My new position on this:

Unless we are in 9th/10th at the trade deadline and only 3 points out this is what I'd like to see:

-Waive Hecht
-Trade Leopold and Stafford for a promising forward, picks or whatever we can get. Also make available Brennan, McCormick, Pardy, Ellis.
-Promote McNabb if we trade Brennan out of town.
-Go for a 2nd line C and a 2nd line RW, in the offseason. Preferably an experienced vet who can help us mentally and with a few goals.
-Give Enroth the % of starts for the rest of the season, his only played 4/5 times since 2011, give him 3-4 starts in a row regardless of results, see what he can do.
-Fire Regier.
-Reassign the captaincy as follows: Vanek - C, Ott - A, Ehrhoff - A. Next season I'd like to shape Myers in to becoming the captain and franchise defender, give him all the help and support he needs. I do feel his issue is down to the pressure he places on himself rather than skill.

If the Devils can pull their collective head out of their collective ass in time to beat Buffalo in regulation on Thursday, I think we could be sitting on 20 pts for awhile. We then play Sunday night in Philly, which has produced some regular season horror shows over the last couple years, and then hosting the Rangers on Tuesday.

If we can lose the next three and gain nothing more than a loser point or two, I think we're well on our way to solidifying our top-5 pick.

This thread is really comical. You sound so enthusiastic about losing, and I'm right there with you.

As I've said before, if we're going to suck, this is the ideal time to do it. A lot of talent at the top of the draft, and a shorter season to endure. Win-win. I think there's enough talent in place that the infusion of an elite prospect coupled with a change of direction from management--i.e., firing Regier--can make this a relatively quick turnaround. (Of course, much depends on the development of the young guys, as well.)

Obviously we will end up third, someone behind us will win the lottery, dropping us to 4th and missing out on the big 3! It's the Buffalo way.

Quite possible. Still, Barkov/Lindholm/Monahan are nice consolation prizes.

The quickest way to the bottom is to trade Miller if you really wanted to go that route.

Or get Leo and Sulzer back in the lineup and ice the team we started the year with. I really don't see that team making a push to the playoffs or getting out of the situation we are currently in.

Who are possible trade partners for Miller though? Trading a goalie is pretty tricky.
