We need a competent back-up...

Bryz has come down off his cloud and I genuinely think it's down to accumulative fatigue. We can't ice Boucher or Leighton because without it all clicking at the other end it's a guaranteed loss.

Who's available to come in? We need someone who can play 25~ games in a full-length season and not embarrass himself.

I was going to merge this with the goaltending thread, but this is a massive issue that deserves it's own thread.

Maybe Elliot could be had for something cheap since Halak is clearly the #1 guy and Allen has been pretty good so far.

I think we could sign just about any other goalie and it would be an improvement on our current situation. Bouch and MFL are just brutal. Just get someone. Anyone.

This is one of Holmers biggest blunders, Bryz is awful again, or most likely he is dead tired. I vote the latter and that is all on Holmer. Expect Boosh vs Pens and hopefully we keep them to single digits.

There really is no excuse for not having a capable backup this season...NONE...ZERO...ZILCH...NADA

Bryz has held up but if the wheels fall off (seeing some cracks of late) then there is like NO chance Boosh and that career AHL'r can step in and help this team make it into the playoffs let alone succeed in the playoffs..

A competent starter would be even better.

Maybe we can forfeit the rest of the season for the 1st overall?

This was Homer's master plan all along. Tank the season w/o making it look like we are tanking by getting Bryz exhausted and no capable back-up. That is why no panic trades have been made nor a coaching change.

I highly doubt Homer even thinks a day ahead when it comes to running the Flyers.

Anton Khudobin on the Bruins?

Could Elliott from Blues be expendable for them since they have Halak and Allen?

There are real good goalies available in Europe and the KHL. All it takes to get them is a one-way contract and reasonable salary. Victor Fasth is the best example.

I can't see Holmgren attempting to bring a European goalie here, not after the inconsistance of Ilya Byrzgalov. There aren't many goalies left in the market that aren't comparable to Boucher or Leighton. In other words, the Flyers are locked in to Bryz. Their best bet would be to trade for better defense men. If Bryz has porch cleaners and good shot blockers in front of him, he'll play better.
If the Flyers also had some more goal scorers on this team, then games like the one they just lost in MSG wouldn't be losses if they could JUST SCORE!

Trade for Bernier. Sign him after trading for him. Let him battle for the starting spot with Bryz until the end of next season and if he beats him out, buy out Bryz after next season.

First, it's quite the stretch to believe that Bryzgalov's play has soured Holmgren's view of ALL European goaltenders. Most of the top Gs in the league right now come from across the ocean.

Second, the Flyers don't need more porch cleaners or shot blockers; they need to upgrade defensive speed and work on team positioning. Far too many goals and other golden scoring opportunities are coming on fast breaks where defensive assignments are being ignored.

Holmgren should go after Bishop in OTT. They've been looking to unlaod him for awhile now since they originally wanted to go with Anderson and Lehner, but couldnt, so they had to send Lehner to the minors since Bishop has to go through waivers.

How about Al Montoya? Jets move him? He's looked decent.

doubt they move him since they need him as their back-up

maybe this summer if he becomes a UFA. But we need someone right now, which is why I think Bishop should be the target
