Hamrlik is just another one of those players habs fans like to scapegoat for no reason than every year habs fans need someone to hate on. Unfortunately, it's difficult for players to lose their scapegoat statuses for some habs fans...see people with Price.

Ryder, Kostitsyn, Bourque, Gionta, Price, Hamrlik, Spacek, Kaberle etc etc.

He was just saying out loud what a lot of players thought but didn't have the balls to. If that makes him an ass, then so be it.

Hamrlik was a beast for us in 10/11. He was our #1 d-man, 25 minutes per night in all situations. Wouldn't have reached the playoffs without him (we were missing Gorges and Markov, Subban had a rough stretch of being benched...)

He was paid 5.5m in 2009 money and he provided very little in ways of playmaking or point-presence (actually he was god-awful at the point)... he better have delivered the goods on defense or else he would've been the worst contract in the league.

You're crediting him for playing up to his contract, I don't understand it. He was SUPPOSED to play 22min+ a night, that's what he was paid for. He did an okay job at it, why is he venerated so much I'll never know.

without Hamrlik we don't shoulder the burden of losing Markov for huge chunks of the season. It's amazing how severely underappreciated Hamrlik's game was here just because Habs fans are so obsessed with dollars. Same thing is starting to happen with the whole toughness and size discourse as well.

Harmlik was a rock while he was here, gave the team excellent hockey. If he can play the way he played in the playoffs with Washington last year, I'd take him back as depth. Free asset, brings a much needed diversity to a back-end with similar types of players.

Jesus ****. Why would we take back an old freaking defenceman?

I sweat I was almost sure someone would make a thread about Kostopoulos ...

I'd like to know which diversity exactly Hamrlik would bring to this team on the backend... An almost 40 years old d-man who's been scratched for all but 4 games by the last team in the East this year?

The way this D is built we need a guy who can just clear the crease when he's being played. If this guy was getting manhandled in the slot by Marco Sturm in the 2008 playoffs, I don't see how he got any better since then.

He was a nice signing. He's far past his expiration date though. Let's not make the mistake to claim him and mortgage our cap space when we could actually pick up something of interest later in the season. We already have a 4.25M d-man that's just that; depth. We don't need another one who makes 3.5M.

A team who need defensemen will pick him up. We don't need any more right now unless they are an upgrade on what we have

I'm convinced if his name was Todd Tooly his career would have been over years ago.

Being a high draft pick + great hockey name for a euro = money in the bank

I would rather look elsewhere. Hamrlik was a reliable d-man for us, despite all the criticism he got at times. But that was two years ago, and he is not the same Hamrlik now. He is close to forty.

Love Hammer, but I don't see any spot for him in our lineup.

Our top 8 is better then him, no interest. 9-10D are Pateryn and St-Denis who can do the job for 2-3 games if we have a lot of injuries. No need for Hamrlik.

He was finished when he played for the habs. He couldn't keep up in the playoffs. Not sure why some ppl love him so much.

His wife is a French Montrealer and she probably wants him back here, but I don't see Marc Bergevin picking him up at any cost.
