Vinny Prospal to Bruins

Simply put, What would the Jackets want in return??

At 37, this guy's still putting up nice numbers..With a goal and assist tonight, he has 9 goals and 13 pts in 23 games. He's healthy, hasn't missed a game in 2 years and I love his enthusiasm!!

He'd likely be a deadline rental if he agreed to being traded.

So around a 2nd round pick.

The situation with Prospal is more complex than just a no-trade clause.

Prospal had a gentlemen's agreement with Howson that he would get a new contract each year until he decided to retire and then would get a position within the organization.

It's unknown if JD and Jarmo will honor the agreement or what Prospal's future plans are now with the changes in the organization. He might agree to be traded and then return next season. Or he might want to stay with his family in Columbus and not be traded.

He'd be a nice little piece of the puzzle for some contender. Funny how come spring, he always seems in the thick of things somewhere.

2nd rounder straight up should do the trick.

Boston is currently leading the Northeast, so that 2nd-rounder is going to fall somewhere around #53.

I'd imagine Prospal may become a very hot commodity around the deadline. For Boston to get out ahead of several other teams (who would also be offering 2nds), the 1st might become necessary.

That seems like a great fit in Boston. Veteran rental that can provide some scoring.

Good proposal.

Boston will most likely say no but I would try to offer Prospal and a 2nd round pick for their 1st rounder. Assuming Boston finishes close to the top and Columbus, close to the bottom of the standings, the differential and spots from our 2nd to their 1st might not be much. But I can see Boston saying no and trying to use their 1st on something else. With that said, I would be fine with just the 2nd.

Prospal will be dealt at the trading deadline.

I can see Prospal for Khocklechev or Spooner

Then what's the incentive to do it? If Boston wins the Cup, then the jump from the CBJ 2nd-rounder to the Boston 1st-rounder could be a mere one spot, and probably no more than five.

Someone else lower in the standings would probably offer the same deal.

The CBJ announcers asked him about continuing to play and they said he was coy about it but it sounded like he wanted to continue playing as long as he's able.

There was an article in the Dispatch last year that in April-May, he coached a group of top peewee players (including his son).
http://bluejacketsxtra.dispatch.com/...mmer-camp.html

Vinny looks like he could keep playing, but he might have other priorities.

A 2nd isn't unreasonable for Vinny, but the Jackets could get a higher pick from another team. Boston doesn't need a top six winger as much as some of the other powerhouses do (Chicago, Pittsburgh, Vancouver, etc..) so I doubt there is a deal with Boston and Columbus.

Koko would be a no and Spooner would be a hell no.

I wouldn't be thrilled to see the Bruins pay any more than a mid level prospect and a 3rd round pick for Prospal. I think if the Bruins are going to give up a prospect like Spooner it will be for a better player than Prospal. I just don't see Prospal as the player the Bruins need.

Why would you say that? I think the Bruins are much more likely to trade Koko than Spooner. We are likely to need a young player to step into the lineup next year because of the Cap and Spooner is close to NHL ready and Koko is still at least a year away.

I could see him on the 2nd line in Vancouver.Brassard and Prospal package would fill most our needs. A RHD would help but I doubt we even fix one of those holes.

Nice info on the gentlemans agreement, that I did not know.

I'd do a 2nd. If you wanted something around Caron, I'd be very willing too.

Of course I'm just throwing that out there if you want a player, not sure that many people would.

Prospal has a NMC and has said he doesn't want to move.

Yeah, I wasn't thinking about Boston winning the Cup. If they do, then yes pointless trade. Also which would be better for Columbus. Lets assume Boston doesn`t win the Cup and they finish with the 26th overall pick.
Option A
Blue Jackets have 4(Theirs,LA`s,NYR,Bos) 1st rounder picks and 0(traded their`s to Boston) 2nd round picks
Option B
Blue Jackets have 3 1st round picks and 2(Theirs and Bos) 2nd round picks

Or else set conditions on it. Something like:
Prospal and CBJ 2nd-rounder for Boston 1st-rounder. If Boston 1st-rounder is #24-30, the CBJ 2nd-rounder is dropped from the deal (becoming Prospal for 1st). If Boston 1st-rounder is #1-23, CBJ 2nd-rounder is included.
