You can blame that on injury but I haven't seen a huge improvement from him despite the points. Most of his points are coming on the PP because he's getting more time on it now that Kadri, Frattin and others are gone.

He has nice hands and can produce given time and space but his compete level is low. He doesn't know how to give himself space 5-on-5 (like by using his body or reach) and his defensive acumen is, at best, amateur.
Carlyle doesn't have a team filled with kids either.

It is a veteran squad (AHL vets included), with Kadri.

Keon was considered one of the fastest skaters in the NHL, and one of the best defensive forwards of his era.[3] He would usually play against the opposing team's top centre, and developed a reputation for neutralizing some of the league's top scorers. In 197071, he scored eight shorthanded goals, setting an NHL record.

I have a feeling that we'll see Colborne up before the end of the year.

Frattin got rewarded with a call-up last year when he put up 18 points in 23 games. Colborne has 21 in the last 23. Eakins says he's ready. Nonis wants to try him out. Let's see what he can do.

Frattin also started that season with the Leafs and while his production was limited, he showed he could fit in, when it came to speed, physicality and compete level

Anyone see any Andy Greene in Jake? They are about the same size and speed and have similar games (were both offensive quarterbacks in their younger days) just hoping to see jake be as tenacious in the defensive zone while keeping up on offense. Anyone?

Gardiner's ceiling is higher than that IMO. I'd say they are pretty even right now, difference being Gardiner is just 22 and Greene is 30.

Marlies are playing right now against Syracuse.

Quote:
Jon Abbott ‏@HockeyAbbs

#marlies morning lines: Hamilton-Zigomanis-Abbott/Ross-Colborne-Scott/D'amigo-Crescenzi-Ryan/Devane-McKegg-Carrick up front #marlieslive

Jon Abbott ‏@HockeyAbbs

#Marlies blueline likely Ranger-Blacker/Yeo-Gardiner/Syvret-Gysbers with MacIntyre expected starter vs #crunch #marlieslive
Glad to see Ross getting a chance with 2 AHL "veterans". Hopefully he breaks out a bit after his conditioning stint in the ECHL.

2x 5 on 3's in the first period will do that.

Ranger gives Marlies 3-2 lead. Toronto has three goals on just six shots.

Make that four goals on seven shots as Blacker scores. Pat Nagle in net now for Crunch, making AHL debut #Marlies

Its very interesting with today's lineup.

The bottom 2 lines were players that were all drafted by the Leafs.

Marlies score 3rd PP goal to go up 5-2. Ref giving it to Abbott, his second of the game
