Need to Know:
St. John’s, Newfoundland’s own Michael Ryder showed no signs of a sophomore slump last season, one year removed from second place finish in Rookie-of-the-Year balloting. One of the Canadiens most consistent point-producers in his first two seasons, Mike has helped the Habs reach the postseason in both those campaigns. A former Olympique with Hull of the Quebec major junior league, Mike has surpassed the expectations that saw him drafted in the eighth round in 1998. Before hitting Montreal, he scored over 100 points in his final year of junior and became a standout face-off man and power-play specialist with Quebec and Hamilton of the AHL. In 2003-04 he carried the confidence of a 10-year-vet into his NHL rookie season and posted 63 points, 12 more than any other 03-04 freshman. He bettered his goal total in 2005-06, leading the club with 30, including 18 on the powerplay.

Recently:
Mike re-signed with the Canadiens over the weekend for the 2006-07 season. His knack for scoring the clutch goals is vital for the Habs if they’re to take it to the next level in the playoffs.
And yet some people want him traded for some reason.

Standout face-off man? Was he a centre in Junior? If so, would there be any thought of trying him at that position on the Habs?

I'm proud that we have Ryder to be honest... the only real player we've developed and raised ourselves since Koivu and Theodore. The fact that he was drafted so late, spent so much time on the bottom of our depth charts, and used nothing but work ethic and a lethal shot to climb the ranks and become an NHL sniper in his rookie season speaks volumes about him. It'd be terrible if we let go of him now

Maybe in a year or two, we'll trade Michael for Daniel?

On a side note, those NHLPA of the day... it is pretty much honoring any guy that got a big raise... isn't it?

I really think so by the way.

Now that being said, I like Ryder... and for his indeed clutch goal. I am surprised people don't praise him more.

I personally can't wait to see Ryder with a non-herniated disc in his back, in his 3rd full season with the Habs, man maybe he could score 50..who knows
He did score 30 with a herniated disc, if any of you have ever suffered from it you know how painful it can be..
