Can never have to many defensemen.

I do have to ask at this point, why did the Rangers sign Gilroy and Eminger and not go after Rosival?

I thought this was the "Get Bickel out" move, hopefully that's right

I don't think it has anything to do with Staal. I believe they had to submit their claim yesterday. I could be wrong.

Bickel is so bad that id rather have Dale Purntinon and Tom Poti on the Rangers defense over Bickel on the NHL roster.. send him to the ECHL where his skill level is.

That would be great if that is the sole reason since it leaves room for optimism with his fresh start with us. The glass half empty view is that he lost a step during the off season/lockout. I guess we'll see soon enough.

Who says we lack elite players? We now have 2 first overall draft picks on the team

I like the addition of Hamrlik for the 3rd pairing. We now have McD-Girardi, DZ-Stralman and Eminger/Gilroy-Hamrlik

Once Staal comes back, Gilroy and Eminger as healthy scratches.

Pretty much. I think for when Staal comes back too, seeing him, Gman, Mac Truck, DZ, Stralman, Hamrlik is more solid than Bickel..

I'm pretty happy with this move in that he should get limited minutes, and does something the Rangers tend not to -- shoot slappers from the point.

Ozolinsh ==> Backman ==> McCabe ==> Hamrlik

the curse continues

this never works... NEVER! Not even close. As long as he's being relied upon as the 6th D-man... only way that I'm okay with this.

remember that chant you had for nash last yr.and the fanbase said he aint a top 10 player.now you can't live without him.everybody deserves a mulligan once in a while.I think you may have received a top 6 defenseman for a lil salary. just saying the guy knows a lil about hockey and maybe your coach can put him in position to succeed.I think this will turnout to be a good signing on the cheap.

Not ideal obviously but better than a panic trade.

Exactly.

You've got cap space out the wazoo and a vet Dman with no additional years beyond the current year on his contract hits waivers - why on earth would you NOT put in a claim? No risk, possible lightning in a bottle reward. People would rather they deal their 2014 #1 for a borderline 4th/5th guy?

You can throw Kotalik in there, too, as he was brought in essentially just to play the point on the PP, though he was a forward.

That said, I'm still OK with this pickup. I just think the Rangers can use someone else to play exactly that position - point on the PP. Hamrlik is also a much smarter player than any of those guys, except perhaps McCabe.

If this is for him to be a 6th d man and means we don't have to watch Bickel playing "defense" for the rest of this season, then great.

If it is for any other reason, pretty much this.

Absolutely despise it. Would rather have Gilroy or Eminger at 6D. I guess he's better than Bickel....a little

This is a good depth pick up.
I wonder if this means there is a minor trade coming up.
Rangers have now 8 Dmen (Assuming Staal is out a couple of weeks).
Girardi - Mcd
Stralman - DZ
Eminger - Hamrlik
Bickel/Gilroy

Either Bickel (for his mits) or Gilroy should be available for late rd pick.

Right now, this is true. But if Sather had the option of a good trade at the deadline that doesn't move any of our bigger contracts, then the cap space could become important depending upon the deal, yes?

Couldn't they simply drop Hamerlik and regain the cap space?
