You bet the Rangers would listen if a team not on Marian Gaborik's limited no-trade list comes calling between now and the Feb. 28 deadline...

From this article that was originally reported by the Post and Newsday I believe:

Quote:
...Gaborik said yesterday, less than 24 hours after he agreed to a five-year, $37.5-million offer - with a limited no-trade clause - that will make him the team's No. 1 right wing.
I think RangerBoy might have the original Post article bookmarked.

Edit: iamitter found it.

Admittedly, I'm basing my opinion on a small sample size, but the goals he's scored this year have included some very impressive snipes. His first goal last night, for example.

Regardless, Nash is still the better player IMO.

NY fans seem to like Fisher, and I think he fits in with what NY needs (gritty, heart and soul 2/3 center that can play in all situations and score 20 goals)

Blum or Watson (would rather it be Blum based on our current assets, but understand that Watson is younger and probably has a higher ceiling than Blum)

1st (probably in the 15-20 range)

Could probably throw Matt Halischuk in as well, if you want some additional utility depth\a player that is useful with some untapped upside.
Nash situation was different. He had a NTC that allowed him to go to like 5 teams or something. Of those 5 teams, the Rangers were the only ones with viable pieces to afford him. So basically, they were bidding against themselves and got him for an unreal price.

Statistically, Gabby will probably always score more goals, but I'll take Nash over Gabby 10 times out of 10. Gabby is an opportunist. Nash makes things happen.
Precisely why Tortorella should reunite them, it would get Gaborik going again because Nash draws a crowd and Gaborik gets open so he can use his wrist shot effectively from the goalie's blind spots. It would be nice to spread them across two lines, but that hasn't worked out. Might as well take advantage of both as threats rather than just one.

That would be it. Everyone else in the organization would be on the table, understanding that Brad Richards and Marian Gaborik have no-move or no-trade clauses and wouldn’t be part of the discussion in any event.

Nash has unreal chemistry with Hagelin. Why disrupt that?

I actually think the Wings could come up with a good package for Gaborik, but as we know, Ken Holland isn't one to make trades.

I haven't heard him say he isn't interested in large markets. I would be surprised if he was not interested in NY if he is a FA. Close to home and with a cup contender...

I'm sure the Rangers would be willing to add to any potential deal (in the form of picks or prospects) if it improved the quality of the player(s) coming our way...

We would be looking to add to our forward line-up in the form of a promising young player or a highly touted prospect.

Not sure if Nashville is on Gabby's list but..

Fisher, Ellis, 1st for Gaborik would be ideal imo.

Rangers won't win anything without Gaborik.

He was injured last playoffs and it showed in New York's porous efforts against New Jersey.

Right, because we are the exact same team as last year and would get zero pieces in return for Gaborik that would help us win. Impeccable logic, 10/10 post, would read again.

Just imagine what the return would be if the Rangers intend on withholding 50% of the cap...

I just don't see it happening. Who is there in NY that will replace him?

My thoughts exactly. Gaborik at half salary + Del Zotto + Skjei could get you Hall + J. Schultz.

No it couldn't.

Gaborik would only come at half salary for 1.5 years, then he'd sign a new contract which would bring up his cap hit to a high level again.

The extra capspace for 1.5 years is worth almost nothing to the Oilers since they aren't having cap issues. If they could get Gaborik at 3.75M for 6 years then it would add something, but that is not the case.

To land Hall, I don't know. Even Gaborik+MDZ+Kreider for just Hall would probably not get it done. Hall is to them what Nash is to us, except younger and with a better contract.

Gaborik has been a huge reason why the Rangers have been competitive since he's signed here. Two 40-goal seasons. The man deserves better than to be traded, he deserves to play out at least this year, and make a run at the Cup (if we keep playing well). He was hurt all last playoffs which is why he was ineffective, but no one would have been at that point. Wouldn't doubt it if he's still feeling the effects because his shot has looked pretty poor this year and inaccurate. He frustrates me too sometimes, but everyone knows he's streaky.

Trading him would be a mistake as I could definitely see him coming up with a couple key goals and plays in the playoffs. Just like last year in the 3OT game vs. Washington.

Someone's still mad about last year.

In case you haven't heard. We added Rick Nash to our ensemble this year and with Gaborik leading our way last year, we made it 2 games from the cup.

Want to talk about never winning anything, try Washington with Ovechkin making that absurd salary.

I think a fair package from Detroit would be something like:

Filppula (conditional 2nd if he doesn't re-sign)
Helm
White

or

Filppula (conditional 2nd)
Sheahan
Tatar or Nyquist
White

I'd hate to give up Helm, but I think it's close to fair value.

You don't create one hole to add a luxury. It would/should be Franzen+ for Gaborik. Look at Gaborik as an upgrade over Franzen as opposed to moving Helm and creating that problem.

Think the discussed Ottawa package is the most enticing deal of all that have been proposed so far.

Franzen at a shade under 4 per is great, but the term is fugly.

However, the cap recapture risk should he retire in 4-5 years would belong to the Wings.

Would probably not want to do that deal.
