After tax, yes

He wouldnt make anywhere near that in the NHL, which of course he knows. If he can get a one way contract, i think much of it is done right there regardless of wage.

For the literate NHL rules people, how does the wage system work ? He had an entry level contract with the Rangers, then he left for Russia, and the Rangers gave him a qualifying offer to retain his rights.

His entry level contract, unless i remember wrong, was 900k or something (which dropped to about a tenth of that for AHL play). If they sign a new contract now, would earlier wage, qualifying offer, etc etc have any bearing, or are they free to "start from scratch" so to speak ?

According to his European agent, he is asking for a multiple year (2 or 3), one-way contract. Probably around $900K to $1mill.

Id give him a 2-3 year 1-way contract with a 925k cap hit in a second. As long as it can be buried without penalty if he doesn't work out, I don't see the risk.

I'd probably prefer a 3-year deal since I have confidence in him as an NHL player. It could evolve into a Nielsen-like deal where a useful player gets paid basically nothing, but he went for it due to job security.

Id go 3 years and 1.5m per in a second.

If he turns out to be able to fix our PP he is a huge steal, we got a suitable replacement for Gabby (in light of our top 2 RW's being Nash and Cally), and so forth.

If he sucks completely and just gets hurt all the time -- he would most likely want to return to the KHL anyway just to stay away from the AHL. Its not like he would play 3 years in the AHL, he could easily get 900k USD tax free in the KHL.

I think the problem is if he wants 2m plus (he will loose money if he signs for less than 3.4m per).

I tried to clean up the translation a bit. Don't kill me as my english is far from perfect

Zuccarello's agent: It will take a one way deal to get Zucc back to NY. The agent is confirming talks with the Rangers, but adds that Zuccarello will not go back to NY at any cost.

The New York Rangers wants to bring Zuccarello back to NY for the balance of this season after his team recently was knocked out of the KHL playoffs.

Late monday night, agent Erik Ryman had a conversation with the big club.

- I can confirm that we were in talks with the Rangers on monday where the Rangers expressed interest in bringing Zuccarello back for the remainder of this season.

Wants a multi year, one way deal.
Zuccarello has a clause in his KHL contract that allows him to go back to the NHL if an offer is made. But the forward does not want to go back on a short term contract.

TV2 has learned that the 25 year old is seeking a one way deal for 2-3 years. A one way deal will pay Zuccarello the same salary regardless of whether he plays in the NHL or AHL and a one way deal will make him more difficult to send down like he experienced during his last stint in NY.

-Mats is interested if the terms and conditions are there. He has one year left on his KHL deal so he is still a member of Metallurg Magnitogorsk, says Ryman.

Expecting a quick response.
Zuccarello was only the seventh norwegian to play in the NHL when he made his debut for the Rangers on desember 23rd 2010. But in the summer of 2012 he opted to go to Russia when he was not offered a one way deal with the Rangers.

Zuccarello has struggled with an injury this season, but he played very well for Magnitogorsk during the second half of the season. Tuesday night, Metallurg were eliminated from the KHL playoffs.

A quick resolution is now expected regarding Zuccarello's future.

-The ball is in their court, says agent Ryman.

If he signs, would he have to be waived to get sent down to AHL?

Can he play at all in the AHL this season?

Isn't there a list of players that whale can use this season somewhere?

Can't imagine that zuc's name is on it though..

"One way contract". Doesn't that imply that he isn't allowed to be sent to the AHL?

I believe it means he would require to pass through waivers if the Rangers wanted to send him down.

Yea, sorry not articulating myself properly. I mean he seems to want a guaranteed roster spot on the Rangers without a free pass to the AHL.

Guaranteed roster spot. Not likely. Zuccarello can make so much more money playing in the KHL. No offense but returning to the NHL is stupid. Make the money while you can.

A one way deal really only means you get paid the same no matter if you're in the NHL or AHL. Waiver eligibility is separate.

all a one way contract is; whether you play in AHL or NHL your salary remains the same; ex sign for $1 mill paid that sum regardless of where you play; sign a 2 way deal for $1mill and sent to AHL, you could be playing for $300k and not $1mil

One way contracts denote pay scale only, not where you play. I hope that makes sense

It does, but it doesn't change the fact that a one-way multiyear contract is a nonstarter because it screws our cap position next year.

Under $925,000 it doesn't.

Yeah but he still wants that first, and the Rangers don't even have one.

Zuc was really helping our PP big time before he broke his wrist. With our depth issues I'd welcome him back with open arms at his current demands.

Where would Zucc go?

He could really fit anywhere in the lineup. I know Torts wouldn't do it but he'd even fit on the 4th line with Powe and Halpern.

I really hope Zooks comes back. I understand he has a pretty good KHL deal so I understand the risks. I would offer him around 80% of his KHL deal in a one way contract and hope that he takes it because he wants to be in the NHL.
