Not wanting Kane and not wanting to parting with fair value for him are completely different things. He wants to sign in Buffalo for his next contract? Good deal. You want WHAT for him!? No thanks.

I wouldn't want Patrick Kane on THIS Sabres team...

now if we had elite leaders like Toews, Keith, Seabrook, Sharp, and Hossa to put around him... then hell yea, I'd want Kane along with that group

Not sure if the differentiation makes sense to everyone... but it's a big deal to me.

Meh. If you don't have that type of guy you aren't going to be any good to begin with. If Kane comes first I don't see it as an issue.

Exactly why we should be focused on getting that type of guy, and not a primadonna super star

I'm with Jame re: Kane.

A young developing team like ours doesn't need the influence of a Kane type in the dressing room.

Isnt this the wrong thread for this discussion?

But TBH, I have to agree with Imlache on this one. I dont think I'd want to give up what it would take to trade for Kane, but if he came in FA I'd be all for it.

point of procedural order due to location on the hockey-ignorant side of the pond; once an offer sheet has been submitted, but not signed, can another team submit their own offer sheet to the same player, or does the submission itself invoke "exclusivity" until the offer is categorically signed or rejected ?

thanks in advance (learning bit by bit !)

It's exclusive. An offer sheet is already a signed contract, and you can't sign 2 different contracts.

To make sure I'm interpreting your question properly, I'll do a timeline.

1) Player X becomes RFA, Team # has rights.
2) Player X offered contract by Team %.

Three possibilities:

3a) Player X signs, Team # matches
3b) Player X signs, Team # chooses not to match (or trades player X to team % instead)

3c) Player X does not sign offer sheet.

If you're referring to 3a or 3b, Player X is under contract to team % pending #'s action. He may not sign another sheet.

If you're referring to 3c, Player X may sign another team's offer sheet.

Unless I'm wrong on this .

Tough break for Florida: Weiss shuts it down for the season to have surgery on his wrist. He'll walk in July, and the Panthers can't even trade him as a rental now.

Florida's screwed .. injuries to Theodore, Weiss, Kulikov, Weaver, Jovanovski, Upshall, Versteeg .. Kovalev old and scratched .. that's a recipe for the cellar.

M. Staal took a puck to the eye vs. Philly Slapshot from the point got deflected up and hit him apparently. Hope he has a speedy recovery, it looked pretty bad though.

Now that deserved to be flopping around like he'd been shot. That was brutal.

Yeah that was hard to watch. Hope to God he's ok and his vision doesn't suffer from this.

An eye injury basically destroyed Bryan Berard's career, and he was looking so promising too. Hopefully Staal doesn't have anything that serious.

Initial reports (according to some posts on the Rangers board) Looks like M. Staal will make a full recovery. Vision/eye not in jeopardy from hit.

Good news

Good to hear. He's one of my favorite players, and it would suck to see his career cut short.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Watching western games is always a treat IMO. Seems more wide open but the same time defensively sound. More energy too
