It would but I don't think it will be that tight. Stalberg, Bickell, Rozsi and Emery walk to more money elsewhere IMO.

Buying out Olesz and resigning Kruger and Leddy for around $4-$4.5 mil combined, and the Hawks have $3 mil to sign 2 third line wingers and a back up goalie. Thats pretty tight.

It would definitely be nice to have someone like Morin sign for the league minimum, absolutely no arguments there. Then we can get a bit more pricey backup goalie or bring back Rozsi if he is reasonable.

Our 3rd line costs a grand total of $1,981,667 against the cap, incredible.

Yeah, it definitely is nice that all three have stepped up their play. That's probably cheaper than 90% of the 4th lines in the league.

When guys like Brandon Prust and Adam Burish are getting the kind of contract they got, yeah, we have an amazing deal for our third line.

In this day and age in a cap era that kind of thing is pretty much what has to happen to win a Cup and have success. Guys who are on ELC and the like have to develop (like you hope they do in the first place) and outplay and outperform that contract. Then when their deals are up you have to decide who you want to keep and let walk, and have a stable of players ready to do the same thing in the next year or two.

There's no greater evidence of that than the year these guys won the Cup. It was the perfect storm of guys who were outplaying their contracts at the same time but were going to get a raise and we had to let some walk. That was an extreme case of it, but, a case no less.

Bickell got the chance by signing that cheap contract. He was bad last year. Bad enough to be a healthy scratch for a long time. This year in his contract year he shows up and works his ass off... This can happen again with a Jayes or Smith type of guy, even Beach. 2 years, one way contract with the league minimum. If that player isn't good enough, keep him as #13 F or if he is really that bad just waive him
