Golly gee, let's be fair to Sather for getting rid of yet another player who could help us out!(Does the name Korpikowski also ring a bell?)

Hopefully a change of scenery will be good for Hamrlik and he'll be a solid 3rd pairing guy. Since he wasn't playing in Washington, this also means they liked Poti better than him. Tom Poti.

Let's pretend it was Korpi and Werek for Lisin and Lindberg; If(big word)Lindberg is all he's cracked up to be NYR come out even on the deal

Tom Poti is a pretty solid player. He's had a nice career that would be even nicer had he not been plagued by injuries.

Ya I know, I like to complain about it because I was a fan of his and you had a guy like Jared Nightingale in the lineup instead of him. And I had to watch Francois Bouchard play in Hartford!

Idk I've seen a bunch of goals against Washington this year where he made a bad play. The goal Hags scored against Washington this year was scored because Poti hadn't tied Hags' stick up, I guess that can be attributed to a good play by Hags.

I guess I just always get a sour feeling about Poti because he was on our team during the dark years and even though he put up good offensive numbers, I have a lot of memories of him making bonehead plays.

Hamrlik has history with Sather in Edmonton. The Rangers pursued Hamrlik as a free agent in 2007.

But, there isn't many teams in this league with a big fat whole on the PP point, cept us.

I've seen Hamerlik all his career, and he was like promising for 14 years and then leveled of his last 6. He never really had that smarts nor had that 6th sense that the typical good looking 38 y/o have, but on the other hand we do not need something extra vagancic, we just need someone who can get by on the point.

The Caps had pp personel, the worst teams in the league don't need a stop gap and so forth. I think we could have done better than this. Maybe. But hopefully he can at least help. On one hand it takes time for a D to settle in but on the other hand these type of Ds like Hamerlik can only play in a top 4 role on a good team and there can be a world of difference for them to play in such role compared to a smaller role for a lesser team. Sometime you get magic.

The biggest problem I have in the end is that it is kind of half arsed. Like we need offense but Hamerlik has never been a offensive wiz. I would have liked it more if we like brought Rafalski or Zubov out of retirement almost.
All fair points. Good post as usual Ola.

BTW, Hamrlik has the most games played amongst active skaters.

The only real good thing about this is the Rangers are at least acknowledging the need for a booming shot from the point on the pp.

But, Hamrlik is a lefty, and not very mobile. So I am not sure if it is going to be all that helpful.

Still as a bottom six guy, I don't think he will hurt us all that much. Big plus is that the Stu Bickel experiment looks to be coming to an end..

They can find a buyer if his salary is a problem. I don't think it is at this point. Remember we traded for John Scott. The Rangers can find a home for Stu Bickel if we need the space..

His career is that of a woeful underachiever.

Just to tell you guys, Hamrlik likes to set up at the left side of the umbrella. It could mean that Gabs may be moved to second unit PP to play the right side. Since there is no way Nash is getting moved off the first PP unit.

Hamrlik's presence could open wider shooting lanes for Richards/Del Z or Nash. Lets see if they actually take advantage of it though.

His on ice product was never commensurate with his talent, skill and ability. He went from being a potential two way defenseman who had size, offensive ability and could skate. He settled on becoming a serviceable defenseman who avoided initiating contact (rather be hit than hit) and relying on the pokecheck.

Yeah, that's an underachiever.

Okay. What if Masher is called up? Isn't it strange he is allowed to use a number which is in use by another player?

Hamrlik over Bickel all day long.

He might be old and slow but he got the shot.
