and Clowe? He's having a bad season and he would suddenly turn into Messier if he were to be traded? Clowe is a rental at best. No need for moving what could be significant pieces...a 3rd? Sure, more, no thanks. Bourque will provide that missing top 9.
This is how I see it. Looking in our own back yard, a motivated Moen would be awsome. A grittier Kaberle would be nice. But that's not the case.
What's great to see on the other hand is, the progress Eller , Gallagher getting is nose dirty or a young prodigy getting wet being his ears.

Would Clowe now be better then Moen? I think so.
Stewart's name comes out often but that seems like wishfulll thinking IMO.
Bourque coming back will be hudge for Plekanec.

So I see the Habs' line up has-

Patch-DD-Gally
Bourque/Chuk-Plekanec-Ryder
Prust-Eller-Gionta
Moen-White-Armstrong

Emelin-Markov
PK-Gorges
DIaz-Bouillon
Kaberle/Weber
Who can you move?

Price
Budaj

I heard that the league was lowerin' the cap to 64 millions next year, is it true?

If that is true, I think there is not much to do at the trade deadline except getting rid of Kaberle, but that is not possible.

I don't know if it's possible to get these two guys without mortgaging the future but. Why not try to get a package deal around.

Ryane Clowe
Douglas Murray

Exactly the two pieces that fit our needs and both are UFAs to boot. They aren't exactly favorites of the Sharks fans anymore don't know how their management feels. But these are the two guys who interest me the most not only at deadline but also to sign in the offseason, we could always try to acquire them and re-sign before free agency as well.

Habs can buy back ONE other contract. It could be Kaberle"s one or Gionta's.

With -7,4 of Gomez + 4,5 or 5 from one of the guy above + Noke and Amrstrong gone on UFA marker + very possibly Ryder 3,5, you have tons of money to get other good UFA's or re-sign the youngsters to better, longer contracts.

The idea behind Stewart is that Lebrun said that the Habs want to get bigger and grittier on the top-9 and it must not be a rental but someone to be part of the team long terms.

If you want to motivate Moen...scratch him and dress someone from Hamilton. If he doesnt wake up his days may be numbered. He isnt a liability defensively, but he just seems to be on auto pilot. Moen is a 4th liner. Clowe is an upgrade, but he is no 4th liner, he needs to play top 9. But his play (clowe) is very weak and would be a step back.

As for Kaberle, hes a buyout. I just ca nt see a trade there.

If Christ Stewart was traded to us it would concern me that two teams felt he was expendable. Teams don't trade 25 year old players if they're that good.

Maybe this is a silly question, but does the cap still go down to $64 million if the Habs, Leafs, and Rangers all make the playoffs?

I'd take a risk with David Clarkson. I think hes exactly what we need. Can play anywhere on the TOP9, adds grit and toughness; exactly what MB wants. He helps the team immediately, and if he resigns, could be a great addition for the next 3-4 years. I believe the team's atmosphere/vibe could make him want to sign a contract extension.

Unfortunately, eventhough hes a pending UFA, the devils are doing well, so doubt they become sellers this deadline.

If I'm MB, I'm not willing to take this risk though. He stated that he has a "building" process. Doubt he sacrifices picks or prospects for this. Would just be safer to take a drink and wait for the UFA Market to open up and take it from there

When I think of Clowe i think of this:

And then I start to doubt his level of intelligence. That would make him a perfect fit for the Bruins though.

this year caps is $70,200,000

next year it is set to $64,300,000

so losing Cole and not resigning Ryder will make up for that gap. We need to give a raise of Desharnais (3X3?).

Also Gionta/Markov/Kaberle contracts ends when Subban will be due to his big raise.
Still doable to grab a Perry for 6.5 millions next summer, especially if we buy out Karberle.

Is it the right year to do so. Is it too early. Do we want to see what Collberg/Hudon/Kristo can do for the team.

anyway I love hockey!

He'd be more than fine as a 2nd line centre. Plays decently well with Patches. I'd prefer him to Desharnais by a fair margin, even though his point production would likely be similar and that would be who he should be replacing on the team roster.

Wishful thinking that perry gets anything under 7.5 or 8

Well Savard was the definition of a late bloomer. Never really came into his own until his late twenties. Recchi was traded to Montreal when he was 27. But sure, there are always exceptions to any rule. My point is that it's typically a sign that the player might not be as good as he appears to be.

Ryan Malone would be a great addition if hes available. Problem might be the terms.

Pacioretty - DD - Gallagher
Eller - Galchenyuk - Malone
Bourque - Plekanec - Gionta
Prust - White - Armstrong

What we need is a puck moving dman ala Jack Johnson and a tough guy ala Jared Boll who will give the team confidence playing against bigger team.

Bourque-Plekanec-Gionta
Pacioretty-DD-Gallagher
Galchenyuk-Eller-Prust
Moen-White-Boll/Armstrong

Subban-Johnson
Markov-Emelin
Diaz-Gorges/Boullion

Price
Budaj

Get rid of Kaberle.
