The Realistic Trade Deadline Options

There tends to be a TON of hype regarding players at this time, so maybe we can go through the realistic options so we aren't as disappointed come deadline day?

CALGARY-Chris Butler, Anton Babchuk, and maybe Cory Sarich could be had. If the Flames were willing to deal their first and third rounders for O'Reilly, then those could be had too. Blake Comeau and Steve Begin probably don't hold much value but they are UFAs

HURRICANES-Joe Corvo is a veteran guy who could be had possibly.

AVALANCHE-Shane O'Brien could provide toughness for a team.

JACKETS-Do they move Vaclav Prospal to a contender, despite the gentlemen's agreement he had with Howson and Co. earlier? Adrian Aucoin also would likely be out there.

OILERS-Ryan Whitney is a guy who the Oil have obvious intentions of moving. Nikolai Khabibulin if healthy would be a nice backup for someone down the stretch.

CANADIENS-Yannick Weber and Tomas Kaberle, healthy scratches almost every game.

DEVILS-Henrik Tallinder is probably on the outs here.

ISLES-They've been trying to move Marty Reasoner.

SHARKS-Jason Demers could be used to gain forward depth

LEAFS-Mike Komisarek has limited value, but his name is obviously out there. Same for Marlies' Tim Connolly.

Then there's the variables, where something must happen (being out of the playoff race, receiving salary back etc. must occur) These are more unlikely.

DUCKS-Corey Perry, Brandon McMillan, Toni Lydman, Ben Lovejoy
BRUINS-Jordan Caron
SABRES-Drew Stafford, Ville Leino, Jordan Leopold, Alex Sulzer, Robyn Regehr, Adam Pardy, John Scott, Jochen Hecht
FLAMES-Jarome Iginla, Jay Bouwmeester, Miikka Kiprusoff, Roman Cervenka
CANES-Jussi Jokinen, Tim Brent, Chad LaRose
AVS-Paul Stastny, David Jones, Chuck Kobasew, Ryan O'Byrne
JACKETS-RJ Umberger, Derick Brassard, Nick Foligno, Mark Letestu, Steve Mason, Nikita Nikitin
STARS-Eric Nystrom, Stephane Robidas, Brendan Morrow
RED WINGS-Drew Miller, Ian White, Jakub Kindl
OILERS-Ales Hemsky, Lennart Petrell, Magnus Paajarvi
PANTHERS-everyone but the kids and Kulikov/Campbell/Fleischmann
KINGS-Dustin Penner, Jonathan Bernier, Brad Richardson, Colin Fraser, Davis Drewiske
WILD-Matt Cullen, PM Bouchard, Devin Setoguchi
HABS-Ryan White, Petteri Nokelainen, Travis Moen (has NTC though)
PREDS-Brandon Yip, Hal Gill, Scott Hannan
DEVILS-Anton Volchenkov
ISLANDERS-Mark Streit, Lubomir Visnovsky, Brad Boyes
RANGERS-Brian Boyle, Steve Eminger, Matt Gilroy
SENATORS-Sergei Gonchar, Ben Bishop, Latendresse, Andre Benoit, Mike Lundin
FLYERS-Ruslan Fedotenko, Jody Shelley, Kurtis Foster
COYOTES-Nick Johnson, Jason LaBarbera, Steve Sullivan
PENGUINS-Tyler Kennedy
BLUES-Brian Elliott, Ian Cole, Wade Redden
SHARKS-Michal Handzus, Doug Murray, Thomas Greiss, Scott Gomez
LIGHTNING-Adam Hall, M-A Bergeron, Mathieu Garon, Nate Thompson
LEAFS-JM Liles, Nikolai Kulemin, Dave Steckel, Mike Kostka, Cody Franson
CANUCKS-Roberto Luongo, Keith Ballard, David Booth, Mason Raymond
CAPITALS-Troy Brouwer, Joel Ward, Jason Chimera, Joey Crabb, Matt Hendricks, Wojtek Wolski, Eric Fehr
JETS-Ron Hainsey, Nik Antropov, Kyle Wellwood

Then there's the super unlikely candidates, the guys who will be in speculation but have a 1% or less chance of moving.

DUCKS-Bobby Ryan, Jonas Hiller
BRUINS-Nathan Horton, Rich Peverley
SABRES-Ryan Miller
FLAMES-any forward with a contract beyond this year
CANES-Alex Semin
AVS-Milan Hejduk
JACKETS-Jack Johnson, Brandon Dubinsky
STARS-Jaromir Jagr, Derek Roy
WINGS-Valtteri Filppula, Dan Cleary
OILERS-Ladislav Smid, Ryan Jones
DEVILS-David Clarkson
ISLES-Evgeni Nabokov (for now)
RANGERS-Brad Richards, Marian Gaborik
SENATORS-Daniel Alfredsson, Colin Greening
FLYERS-Daniel Briere
COYOTES-Keith Yandle, Mike Smith
SHARKS-Dan Boyle, Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau, Ryane Clowe, Martin Havlat
LIGHTNING-Ryan Malone, Vincent Lecavalier
LEAFS-Tyler Bozak, Phil Kessel, Clarke MacArthur (for now)
CANUCKS-Cory Schneider
CAPITALS-Mike Green, Mike Ribeiro
JETS-Alex Burmistrov

I'd love feedback on how to improve the list, your thoughts on who's available, and if I can keep it updated, I'd love to. (I'm still building the list as this is posted)

Morrow will likely be gone no matter what.

If it doesn't look like we'll re-sign Roy, he'll possibly get traded as well.

Don't see Jagr moving, personally.

I hope Robidas gets traded, won't be happening though.

No one else is worth enough to make this list.

The Kings might be able to move a defenseman, not that theyre likely but Drewiskie or Muzzin possibly. Scrubs like Fraser and Richardson could be moved as well, but hold no value. I doubt DL has much in the way of moves.

If the Preds continue looking like an AHL team, expect us to sell. In order of likelyhood, I see us shopping: Gill, SK, Hannan, Legwand, Gaustad, Erat, Fisher, and Blum.

What's the news on Getzlaf and Perry?

Who's more likely to get signed?
Why haven't they been extended yet? and
What are the odds either gets dealt by the deadline?

The problem with Fish is that he has Nashville connections and a NTC. I doubt he would waive and leave his wife's town.

Anyways, Fisher has been played in too high of a role here, so he looks awful. The problem is that we are trying to make him a 1st line center, when in reality, he is a mediocre #2 or a great #3. If your team is looking for a great depth guy that can be awesome defensively and chip in offensively, go for it. If you need an offensive center, look elsewhere.

Price is a 1st+(depending on how high) or equivalent prospect.

Antropov and Wellwood could be moved by the Jets. I'd say Antropov is just as likely to be moved as Hainsey. Wellwood probably wouldn't be picked up though, no one took him last year as a pending UFA during a career year and he's been far worse this year.

Demers is hardly on the outs, nor Braun. Murray, Clowe, and Boyle would be likely to be moved in that order.

No one in their right mind will trade for Leino.

Sabres will do everything in their power to re-sign Miller.

I can't see Hecht going, he will retire a Sabre.

Two of Regehr/Pardy/Leopold will be gone likely.

And I would rather have Staff work on his problems here, rather than sell him low.

I thought this was a very good list. Well done OP

On topic now: I really see Morrow headed to SJ for some odd reason and Clowe either Dallas or Bruins bound.

What would it cost for the Rangers to get Boyle?

Please don't say Hagelin/Stepan.

Damn. There's no way he's moved, Gorton and Clark love the kid. He wasn't available for Nash, so I doubt they'd move him for Boyle. It sucks, Boyle is EXACTLY what this team has needed ever since Leetch was traded.

How about we swap Boyles?

I know you're kidding, but Dan Boyle is a #1 defensemen, and the best PPQB in the league. He won't come cheap. We need speedy young top-6 forwards, and if Hagelin is unavailable (I was screaming for the Sharks to acquire him or Voracek over the off-season ) then Kreider's the only player of interest.
