Islanders...capitals

Seen this on a post on NHL.com and thought it wasent to bad so i thought i would throw it out there and see what you all think...personally i think if the Isles do end up pulling off a big deal this year i think it will be to the Ducks for Perry but thats another thread for another day...enjoy

Capitals receive
Kyle Okposo
Mark Streit
Johan Sundstrom
Scott Mayfield
2013 1st Round Pick
2014 3rd Round Pick

Islanders receive
Alex Ovechkin
Jack Hillen
2013 3rd Round Pick

An outrageous idea, but Brooklyn has the largest Russian community probably across the nation, Hillen was good for the Islanders and liked playing for the Islanders and would love to have another stint with them, Streit is at the end of his 5 year deal and to get a guy like Ovechkin he'd sign back. Yeah the Islanders are giving up Okposo, who would do way better if he had better linemates than the ones the Islanders have him playing with. Ovechkin would love to play on the Tavares-Moulson line, and they'd easily be one of the best, if not the best line in the league. Streit is a good #2-#3 defense man on any team, he's the Islanders #1, and Johan Sundstrom, Scott Mayfield, and 2 high draft picks could also help out the Capitals...

What a steal for Washington that they decline to take it.

No chance. The only way it gets done without Tavares is something like Grabner,Brock,Rienhardt. Even then caps would be reluctant.

I feel like this is a lot to offer for a deal centering around Jack Hillen.

Abysmal deal for the Caps.

Those saying it's a terrible deal for the Islanders are out to lunch.

Wow. Just wow.

Someone should explain to the NHL.com writer that the NYI isles haven't gone thru yrs of rebuilding, only to act asthe Caps farm team. No interest in Yashin part 2.

Charles Wang is exploring selling the team. The NY press says he has a big $75m loan due in 2014. The isles continue to use cap floor tricks like the phantom Thomas cap hit and players having cap hits higher then their actual salary.
Wang wouldn't touch Ovie's huge longterm contract, after being burned on Yashin+ DiPietro's longterm contracts.

and as for Brooklyn's a big Russian population....the NY Times reports that Wang's looking to make his big money in Barclay, off the 101 luxury and premium seats, off corporations. Not off the cheaper , regular seats. If the isles want to appeal to fans in the cheaper seats to cover all bases, then ice a playoff team and add youngsters like Valeri Nichushkin and Kabanov to the roster.

The Islanders are a farm team. Getting better but still the same promising young team that finishes bottom five each year it seems.

You dont like what it takes to get Ovi....stop asking. Not you personaly of course.

Should be a sticky. Price of Ovechkin = your teams future.

It wouldn't be the best offer the Caps would see for OV, but this is way more than the Islanders could or should give up for him.

Except the first rounder is the only thing even close to what the caps want or need. Even that pick takes time to develope.

Caps are playing well and Ovechkin is not for sale.

The OP, Mac Man, is not an Islander fan.

Wang is still paying Yashin $2.2m per until the end of 2014-2015.The isles just demoted DiPietro, who has 8 more seasons on his contract and who'll make an NHL salary, whether he's in the AHL or NHL.

Wang is the last owner in the league who'd take on Ovie's declining play/ stats and his huge salary.
And someone should probably tell Snow, his team's a farm team. He seems to have missed the memo.

Still Ovechkin will at least go for...

1st
2nd
Roster player

Thats what I proposed.

Did Wang hand out those long contracts or inherit them?

my favorite part of this deal is that streit is sent to the caps because he is a pending free agent and would return immediately to the islanders. and....the caps wouldnt notice that?

then he sells how good streit is so that the caps would want him. so which is it?

He gave them out.

Twice burned, he seems to have learned his lesson and leaves contracts to Snow now. Snow's done a good job, tying up key players in team friendly deals like Tavares 6 yr/$33m deal and Moulson's 3 yr/$9m deal.

Because unlike Thomas, Ovie would actually play and have to be paid, in real money
