NHL draft 2013 enforcers

Does anyone know what fighters, enforcers or really big hitters are up to be drafted in this upcoming draft? Are there any first year eligable players who are mainly enforcers and likely to get drafted? a derek mathers kind of player, he was drafted by Philly his first year

Jackson Houck looks like he will be the prototypical 3rd/4th liner in the NHL. I'd have him as a second round pick. 54pts in 65 games on a brutal Vancouver Giants squad.

Interesting, but given that he's ended up on the ice in all 4 of his fights this season I'm not sure he's what the op is looking for.

Keegan Kanzig should be THE enforcer for the 2013 draft.

Any GM that drafts a player to be an Enforcer or Fighter should be fired right away. You can always find someone that is looking to beat there way to the NHL via free agency.

Ross Olsson and Michael McCarron are two more for this upcoming draft.

i disagree. look at derek mathers for philly. i think that was a great draft pick. he played a couple games for their ahl team last year and had two great scraps. and why not a take a chance on a fighter in the late rounds. most of those guys dont pan out anyways so i love to see picks like that

I am going to disagree with Ross Olsson. He is too skilled to be labeled as an enforcer. He will be a good power forward once he improves his skating. It is good to see Northeastern push him back a year as he needs another year in Juniors.

Exactly. Now watch the Flyers use their 3rd round pick on one!

Devils have done it a fair bit in the past. I always felt like it was wasting picks too, especially when you have a good scouting staff that could have maybe done some good things with the picks. Esp. now with just 7 rounds in the draft. I mean, unless the player is showing more than just enforcer potential. Everybody wants the toughguy who can also play.

The WHL has a few guys that are tough that can play. Mason Geertsen, Tyrell Goulborne, Chance Braid, Keegan Kanzig, Tanner Lesann and Joe Mahon all come to mind.

'Cause CLEARLY Lucic is JUST an enforcer. Bruins picked him in the 2nd round 'cause this enforcer ALSO knew how to play hockey.

I totally agree. The guy will be killed in the NHL. He "succeeds" just because he's bigger than the others. Doesn't work in the NHL.

Fight of the year (well not really THE fight...but the outcome)....Goulborne (5'11) vs Joe Mahon (6'5'')

But neither will make it as enforcers.

That is ridiculous but didn't really like the cheap shots as he was falling.

Brody Silk from the Sudbury Wolves is a pretty good fighter.... needs to put on some weight but a good middleweight at the moment.

I love Goulborne for the Rockets. He's a complete crowd favourite: the other night during introductions you've got likely future NHLers like Damon Severson and Colton Sissons in the lineup and they get big cheers, but Goulborne got the biggest cheer of the night. He's never going to be an enforcer, but might be quick enough and tough enough to make it as a Derek Dorsett/Patrick Kaleta/Matt Cooke type who can hit and fight on your 4th line. Rockets pbp man Regan Bartel really expected that he would get drafted last year but it didn't happen. I wouldn't be surprised to see him invited to a Rookie Camp this summer.
