i was not in favor of letting semin go. on the other hand ribeiro has replaced the production and then some and plays a more important position.

frankly the caps would be in a wonderful position were backstrom performing as backstrom should.

Clear enough now? Ribeiro is the closest thing there was to a Semin replacement, especially if his presence shifts Laich to the wing. If it doesn't, there was really no direct replacement brought in for Semin. Wouldn't be surprised at all if they were counting on Kuznetsov to be that guy.
ok ok ok. We get it. Brouwer replaced Semin.

So who replaced Brouwer?

LOL

Hey.........I was just joining in the game too. haha

Brouwer has a smoothie in the morning. Semin eats fish and rice.

Brouwer talks too much. Semin doesn't talk enough.

RH McPhee Review of the Season

McPhee Good
Ribs
Oates
Fehr
using our VIP waiver priority
Adding toughness

McPhee Bad
No replacement for Laich
Having no one in Hershey to even spell a top 6 period

McPhee Jury Out
Wolski - he is getting chances and all know, scorers go hot and cold. He is all we got.
LD - Hammer an asset walks to a conference rival. Was Hammer that much worse than Poti and Sarge to warrant that? Did we need the cap room, or roster slot?
Oleksy 3 year contract

Except Semin actually did score 40 goals in '09-'10...

And this little discussion isn't about Semin and Brouwer it is simply about correct math. Don't say someone score 20 goals if they didn't and don't say someone is on pace for 40 if they aren't.

No ****. And that's the same as calling Teemu a 70 goal scorer and demanding he be treated like that NOW. It means nothing beyond historical context.

Then they use his pace when it suits them, and dismiss it when it doesn't, especially when looking at seasons where he missed a lot of games.

There's more to being a good hockey player than hogging the puck and scoring goals. Setting up plays, playing good defense, elevating your line to being best in the league, leading your team on a path to take the division after being in the cellar for three straight years. Perhaps Leader of Men could learn a thing or two about all that.

Just pointing out some basic things about hockey is all.

Is your ratio of mindless Semin bashing to total posts ever gonna drop below 50%?

No calling Selanne a 70 goal scorer is accurate. He did indeed score 70 goals once. And your argument saying that was a long time ago and he is no longer that player is also accurate.

Brouwer was not on pace for 40 goals. He indeed has scored 20 in the past but McPhee's quote says, 'Troy Brouwer got 20 goals for us last year, which is one less than Semin' which is not true.

The McPhee quote was about Chimera, but Brouwer still had 18 and more importantly, and the point of the discussion is that Brouwer is on pace to more than outproduce the 21 goals Semin produced last season. But by all means, lets waste more time discussing 37 goals vs 40....Forest for the trees...

It's pointless with you. I can say over and over again that Semin is a great hockey player and maybe the best in the world at some various things (which I have said) and you still just see the negatives, because you are ********.

Let's also ignore the fact that most people who refer to Semin as a "40 goal scorer" say he "IS" a 40 goal scorer, in the context of his current abilities.

And by "let's" I mean "let's not".

A more accurate quote would be "Semin, the one-time 40g scorer from 3 years ago"....

Except were that the case you wouldn't be brushing him off completely, given how much of a boner everyone on this board has for any top 6 forward who knows his head from his ass.

Any mentions of his ability are immediately followed by qualifiers that he only shows up one game a year and is lazy and a cancer and disappears in the playoffs and whatnot, which are patently false. Meanwhile streaky grinders always get an A for effort by default.

Interesting that Semin is basically playing Ribeiro's role with much better defense for the Canes, yet we are so gung ho about Ribeiro and completely dismissing Semin because of a low goal total on a line with two shoot first players.

Seriously...there's a freakin Semin praise thread EVERY DAY somewhere on these boards. Come down off the cross.

It's funny how only the Semin defenders throw around the Cancer term. I can't remember any regular Caps posters saying that other than the Semin defenders who love to rattle sabres and claim Russian bias all the time. It's all nonsensical...

So CBS Washington misquoted McPhee http://washington.cbslocal.com/2012/...agency-update/?

And yeah there is a difference between 18 and 20 and 37 and 40. So many expect accountability from those associated with the team but don't feel the need for it themselves.

Initially I said, Brouwer (previous discussion a few days ago), someone here corrected me and said it was about Chimera...so, not sure, but tomatoe tomato.

Get over it dude....37 or 40...the point is stil the same.
