Given how Stafford's value is going to be severely depressed and they already have limited options in the top 6 on the wing, they may as well hold onto him until summer at the very least. If he continues to struggle, they're not really any worse off going into the summer draft day trade sessions. And if he improves, he brings his value up.

Fair enough. That could be a fantastic top four if we got him.
McD-Hoff
Sekera-Myers
then some combo of regehr+weber/pardy

I'd trade anyone on the team for McDonagh.

I see him more in the Connoly/Roy position. It doesn't matter now, his time in Buffalo is up. The fans hate him and no-one wants to see him play, I'm pretty sure most would take a pick for him at this point if it meant we could see him go tomorrow.

At some point we have to say that right or wrong sometimes these things are just worth doing. IMHO.

When I said a contender wouldn't be interested in Stafford. It was in the context of a Goose type rental trade as mentioned by another poster.

I just don't see him as a playoff rental target for a few reasons. The obvious being he wouldn't be a rental. He also isn't a center faceoff specialist nor a proven playoff performer.

I can more interested in the offseason/draft day for him.

Pretty much everything you just said applied to the Penner trade.

Stafford is Brad Boyes before he came to us. Hopefully we can do as well as St. Louis did.

With the very important difference of the cap going down next year.

Boyes had none of Stafford's two-way pedigree and was older at the time of the deal. They aren't comparable.

The more I think about it, the more I would rather hold onto Stafford for now.

I can't see us getting fair value right now.

Time left on deal, cap hit and struggling former prolific goal scorer. They are virtually identical.

Yep, and boyes still returned a 2nd rounder. I think it's possible a team desperate for a scoring winger could send us a late 1st.

Stafford for a young-ish (under 27) defensive d-man in need of a change of scenery.

If fans are running this ship, count me out. Immediately.

Does anyone know of a place to find a consolidated list of upcoming UFA's? Thanks.

What kind of money does everyone see Nathan Horton demanding? And would you be interested?

He won't come near this place as long as Kaleta is employed by Buffalo. Those two have despised each other since junior. It's more than "just a thing that's forgotten when you become teammates." Kaleta is the reason Horton frequently snaps when he's playing Buffalo.

Not sure if anyone told you, but http://www.capgeek.com/free-agents/ has a nice list of free agents.

Once again sticking to topical comparisons and avoiding in-depth analysis, I see.

Boyes is a prototypical top six or bust forward. If he isn't scoring, he doesn't have the size, speed, defense or puck control abilities to do anything of relevance. The fact that people can use the words "two way play" to describe Stafford without bursting into laughter makes a huge difference in their respective values.

If you think you're getting a better return than what Boyes did, you're kidding yourself.
