Floridian Guertler making his mark in hockey country

He's from Plantation and will be playing for the University of Minnesota here shortly, grew up going to Panthers games.

That would be awesome, not sure what he can bring to the table but it is always nice to see a player from Florida, none the less a Panther fan, getting drafted.

Etem and Kerdiles are products of Californian hockey programs and they were drafted respectively, by their home state! Would be nice if we drafted our own and keep building our own programs.

I wished we drafted Gostisbehere, he looked good during the WJC.

We should always draft / sign / aquire / players based on BPA or who can help us the most.

..not because he was born in Florida.

So you're telling me you think R.J. Boyd was drafted because he was BPA?

Hopefully, that's the reason.

That is logical I must say.

but you don't have state it to be a total buzzkill..jeez.. figured it would be the right kick to the kids dreams to play for a team he followed. It is a rarity for any prospects to state the cats as the team they followed.

Even more a rarity for them to be mentioned in an article before a big draft.

Jeez...

Even more rare for them to be attending a power house like the University of Minnesota.

I guess I am a buzzkill, well whatever.

I just want to see the team I've followed all my life continue to draft well and hopefully become force in the NHL for years to come. Enter in a new era of high expectations and winning.

Really don't care about some kid's "dream".

He's going to be a gopher. Good for him! If we draft him, great. If not, well, then that means Dale thought someone else would fit better here.

After a certain point BPA becomes really really subjective and hard to gauge. If he's in the fourth round or later and that's around where he might go, why not?

But you make some valid points and I agree, but it is nice to see a cat fan make it this far, hopefully he proves himself valuable to be drafted by us or another team.

Would be nice to see him play with Rau. Possibly Bjustad is he decides to stay..which I don't think/hope will happen.

Are there any vids of his play or scouting reports?

Well, 5'9'' is small for NHL standards and if you're not 6'0'' or taller then you better have good character or possess above average skill elsewhere. Otherwise, DT will probably pass right by ya.

Was hoping they'd draft Matteau who grew up here as well, and a couple of others that my son played with.

Itll happen one day, the junior panther program is strong!
