No. This team doesn't need more wingers anyway.

Butch and Heatley to anyone that will take them for some draft picks. Too much cap space wasted on players that don't look to fit what the Wild are trying to accomplish. It's unrealistic to think the Wild are going to do much in the Playoffs this year if they make it, and i'm just not seeing much of a future for either of these two on the team.

Cullen could make ideal 'rental'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Victoria Matiash

UPDATE: At present, Minnesota Wild management appears reluctant to move Matt Cullen. According to ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun, GM Chuck Fletcher has little desire to trade Cullen ahead of the April 3rd deadline -- regardless of where the Wild sit on the standings.

"Matt Cullen has been a good player for us, he’s our second-line center," Fletcher said. "His contract is up, but, we signed him as an unrestricted free agent and didn’t invest one of our draft choices in him. To me it doesn’t create any urgency to move expiring contracts for future considerations. It doesn’t make any sense. We’re happy with how he’s played and he’s a key part of our team. You never know what can happen if there’s something that makes sense for your team, but our approach is that we don’t need to move these guys at all."

***

In the last year of his current contract, Matt Cullen could make the ideal trade rental for a playoff-bound club. But only if his current squad is (realistically) out of the hunt. According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the veteran Minnesota Wild center hopes it doesn't come to that.

"When I signed here three years ago, I wanted to win a Cup here. I hope we can do that this year," Cullen said. "I love it here. My family's from here. It's a great organization. I love every part of it. It's easy to get ahead of yourself and start thinking about this stuff, and I know it will be on the forefront here before long as we get closer to the deadline."

One month ahead of the April 3rd trade deadline, the Wild sit (technically) ninth in the Western Conference with 22 points. But the club trails the third-place Vancouver Canucks by only two points. Cullen is only likely to be dealt (limited no-trade clause) if more games are lost than won in the next 30 days. Even then, the break in the relationship may only be short-term. The 36-year-old can always re-sign with the Wild in the summer.

As I was listening to XM Home Ice on my drive into work this morning, there was discussion about the Devils in desperate need to add a top 6 forward into their line-up...

What about Bouchard for a 3rd or a 4th round pick? It sure would be nice to open up another roster spot as it gives Fletcher more options to bring in a college free agent (Schmidt or LeBlanc?) and allows him to not have to continuouly shuffle players between the AHL and the NHL.

2nd round pick would be fantastic....but that open roster spot is just as valuable, IMO.

If Bouchard can't even be a top 6 forward on this team, I fail to see how he's going to improve teams better than us like Pittsburgh or to a lesser extent, New Jersey.

His game may be better suited to the style of play in the East vs the West, just a thought. Also, I'm getting the sense that a team like the Devil's are pretty desperate right now and might be convinced that a change of scenery could spark something in him if he is playing alongside the right player.

Example: Pascal Dupuis was at one time the designated whipping boy of this team. He was worthless, fans wanted him run out of town. He puts on a Penguins sweater and takes off.

never 4get, one teams junk is another teams treasure! given CF's track record at trade deadlines and the wild should be in the hunt 4 a playoff spot i highly doubt he will pull the trigger on a deal. if i was gm i would. always have one eye on the future.

I was thinking the past few days perhaps Parise's game is better suited to the style of play in the East!

Ah, Parise's fine. He's just trying too hard, same with Koivu. Their games are off just enough. You can see it on the ice.

He's a good player for us. Our entire team is just a little off.

This is why I have been looking at the bench at this point more than the players...

I think we could get a 4th rounder if we traded Brodin.

E: Make it Suter + Brodin for a 2nd and a 4th.

say muck when dupuis was here he could be on a breakaway and shoot the puck 10 feet wide (swing & a miss) then he goes to the pen and succeeds? you'll have to ask his therapist.

Toss in a 4th with Bouchard and try to get a 2nd. Put the two 3rds together and try to move up into the 2nd.

We could grab some pretty interesting players with 4 picks in the top 60.

Not a bad idea, not at all. Rest of the season #tank -> trade the first overall pick for Tim Thomas. Rebuilding never been easier.
