I'd give him no more than Beagle $$ right now, so you're pretty close.

It's funny given how many players this organization has absolutely shat on, but Fehr should love the Caps. We were patient through his injuries and we always paid him fairly. He had a nice experience in Hershey and when we couldn't hang on anymore, we traded him home to his boyhood team. Then, when he washed out completely, we gave him a chance.

We should get a fair two year deal pretty easily. Assuming, of course, the Caps have someone competent negotiating on their behalf.

Great post...exactly what I was thinking about Fehr's position within the organization. They've given him a 3rd chance pretty much (or a lot more depending on how you look at it). I'd say a reasonable 2 yrs 1.8 mil deal is in order. If he blossoms more, they'll make it right next deal.

If there is one thing I didn't like about BB was his apparent dislike for Fehr who always seemed to be in the doghouse with him. From Hershey to here BB never liked Fehr as much as he should have from the outside looking in.

I'm sure he will resign here for a reasonable deal.

Bring back Flash?

Thats a scary proposition. On one hand, we need offense, badly, from the wing slot (and he can play C in a pinch too, as we've seen). He has certainly continued his upwards trajectory away from DC, can pass, and score. He is a well rounded offensive player, and would probably be a tremendous W with Backs/Fehr(Brouwer or Laich) or Ovy/Ribs...

Laich/Brouwer-Ribs-Ovi
Flash-Backs-Fehr

All of that is perfectly fine, for the REGULAR season. Playoffs??? And thats a big 4.5m for the next 2 years after this one. Granted, it slots close to Hamrlik's cost piece...

Eh, if we are going to have 4.5m for the next 2 years, I'd want more than Flash, I think.

Pass

Flash career regular season: .58 points per game
Career playoffs: .28 points per game

People say Semin disappears in the playoffs (wrongly IMO) - Flash vaporizes.

Based on this, and my comments, this makes it all a PERFECT GMGM move.

Flash will be in DC by tonite??? (oh, he will anyway??)

Honestly, I'd take Jurcina over Oleksy as emergency depth RD.

But did you see his big hit? And his assist?

Indeed we all saw it and that assist sparked our comeback.

Sadly, it does not take much to have improvement on our soft as butter defense.

Which is largely timid to crank a full slapper at a shot blocker or goalie, extreme off the chart levels of timidity when it comes time to clobber the opposition heavy.

Oleksy did fine in his debut and it flies in the face of hating the contract without ever seeing him play.

In case it wasn't obvious, I was promoting Oleksy to 1RD and trading Green away.

Do you mean 2 years for $1.8 mil total or 2 years at $1.8 mil per?

The second I think is fair but someone will offer him a decent amount more if he stays relatively healthy all this season and continues producing at a reasonable rate. The first? No way he resigns for that, again assuming continued decent health and production.

2x $900k ($1.8)

If he wants $1.8 per, then someone else can have him. This nice little streak hasn't earned him more than Beagle $$ yet and his lack of health over the years backs that up.

Bourque a LW heh.

The reclamation project continues.

Jurcina and Pothier (never enough RH shots, duh)

Nylander if he isn't suspended could be our 1LW and take faceoffs for the bling king

Hell I bet even Feds could hang for a few games as our 1LW.

Yeah that is what this team needs less talent and more Beagles...

Yeah, I would contend that Fehr's downside is a competent bottom 6 player with excellent pk play. I'd give him $2ish on that downside easily.

His downside is out of the NHL, but assuming he's healthy, I'd agree with the bottom 6 suggestion and that's why I said Beagle $$. Maybe MP85 $$ if you think he's getting a dab of top 6 time. No more, not today.

I know right...for $900k in the bottom 6 an inexperienced C with a little upside still is a horrific notion. The horror of it all...

I'm ignoring injury risk, just like the Caps do.

IMO $2 mil per for a guy who has proven he can pot 20 goals while getting around 12 minutes of ice time per game and is a hound on the forecheck to play at worst a 3rd line role is fantastic value.

Sure there is the injury concern but you are also getting a guy who can step up into a top 6 role if needed. Thinking you are going to get someone who can do all of that for $900k per is pure fantasy.

With Fehr, there will be a large amount of "prove you can stay healthy and do it past this season". I don't think Beagle - MP85 $$ is unreasonable for a guy with Fehr's history. If he's finally turned the corner, he'll more than make it up on the next deal. I think paying him more is simply foolish at this point based on historical data. He could just as easily get IR'd for the next two seasons.

At which point the Caps would be on the hook for neither his cap hit (LTIR) nor his actual salary (covered by insurance).
