At some point we have to say that right or wrong sometimes these things are just worth doing. IMHO.

What Zip said. Running off another player to appease the fans is foolish. Stafford's value is current rock bottom, moving him for minimal return does not help.

this also saves the Sabres a mulligan with contracts to purge. Stafford would be the purge contract this off season, Leino would likely wait until summer 2014.

As for a lack of RWs--not to worried there. Remember Vanek shoots right but plays LW.....why cant a left shot(Leino) play RW?
Agreed. Have to see if Leino can do it, I'd certainly like to give him a shot. His already on the team and signed lol...

No way I trade Ennis + Stafford for Statsny. Maybe Stafford alone, but thats about it. If we DID do that though, I'd be looking to move Ennis in a separate deal. Too many scoring centers on this team without Statsny.

His part of our offensive and defensive problem. And costing 4mill a season. He seems to only be getting worse as well. When are we going to move him if not now?

Then put Ennis at wing.

Not sure how that started, Ennis and Staff is massively overpaying.

He's now a defensive liability, too? Cripes, the lengths some will go to in blaming him for...everything.

I think I'm going to need a mental health break from this place fairly soon. I miss JoeChip.

If he continues to stink, his value this summer is going to be about what it is now. If he picks his game up at all and reestablishes value, they will get more. What he is costing them is secondary -- it isn't like that $4M is in the way of them improving the roster.

I wouldn't be opposed to waiting and dealing Stafford at the deadline next year, he will be in a contract year which means he may actually produce and his value could go up.

Edit : forgot he has 2 years left after this.

Personally I think in the event that we aquire another scoring center, our best option would be to move ennis in a trade to allow us to either get a bigger winger (too many small wingers as it is) or a defensive third line center+

I admit impatience because I've wanted him gone so freakin long. Maybe your right, wont want me from being glad if his traded tomorrow.

This. Trade or waive Gerbe if we acquire Stastny. Why would you get rid of Ennis (only semi-consistently productive player outside of the top line) to clear room when there's dead weight you could move?

Assuming we trade Staff for him, roll:
V-H-P
Ennis-Stastny-Ott
Foligno-Grigs-Leino
Some amalgamation of Hecht/Kaleta/Scott/Flynn/Porter

Just out of curiosity won't it take more than Stafford to get Stastny (a lot more?)?

Both underperforming overpaid players. Stastny is a far cry from the 70+ point player he was 3 years ago. If it does take more, probably not much.

"Tallinder, get off this side of the ice and go stand by Tyler Myers. You have been reunited!" I kid

Have two teams playing each other ever made a trade and then swapped guys during warmup? That would be great. "Just swap jerseys until we get new ones made."

And the Clarkson talk -- guy is a great agitator and plays a hard game but as a top-6 option, he's not likely to keep up this pace. As a 3rd line type? Sure. But replacing top-6 guys? No.

He serves little purpose when looking at where this club is heading.

Where are they headed exactly?

What does everybody think about the Canadiens? Last place in the East last year now they're first in the conference, the only difference was a healthy Markov.

The teams in this league are so close, adding one or two good players and getting the right coach with the right system for the players and next think you know you're winning the division.

Is Statsny better than Ennis? I think so. Have to overpay to get sometimes and only thought is if it upgrades the 2C position, might be worth it (if we're not blowing it all up this year). Appreciate the comments and feedback.

If the Sabres can turn up a defenseman the quality of Markov to plug into this lineup, great, please do so. In the meantime, they have a lot of questions, moreso than the Canadiens did at this point last year.

Stastny is not better than Ennis, and on top of that Stastny is four years older and has a 6.6 mil cap hit compared to Ennis' 2.8 mil cap hit. The on-ice value is about even right now (probably in Ennis' favor), but contract wise, trade-value wise it's not even close.
