Suggestions for players in Hamilton

Didn't hear it directly but it seems that Gainey wants to sign at least 2 forwards and 2 d-men for Hamilton. Do you guys have any suggestions to upgrade that team. My suggestions, if I take the remaining UFA agents that might not have a shot in the NHL would be:

Pascal Rhéaume
Clarke Wilm
Konstantin Koltsov
Tomas Surovy
Justin Papineau
Serge Aubin
JP Vigier
Rory Fitzpatrick (Time to bring him back???)
John Erskine
Jamie Allison
Mathieu Biron
Jason Doig
Eric Goddard (Could play the enforcer role down there and see if we might need him at some point...)

Most of them will never have a shot with us but again, could be nice insurance policies in some case of just solid AHL'er to build a winning team in other cases....

I'd like someone to confirm what I heard about 15 minutes ago on TVA. I think I heard a journalist say that Gainey has put Cedrick Desjardins under contract today, but I wasn't really listening... it may have been another team. Anyone can confirm hearing this?

A french speaking first round 6'6" physical d-man is always usefull!
I hope bg will sign him for Hamilton bulldogs!

p.s : mathieu biron is the brother of the gardien martin biron

Even though we're loaded with goaltenders, I hope it's true! He could play in the AHL with Halak if Abby gets traded.

They've already added two veterans in Eric Manlow (via Grand Rapids [Wings]) and Dan Jancevski (via Iowa [Stars]).

Here's a list of forwards who will likely start the year in Hamilton ...

Eric Manlow
Corey Locke
Andrei Kostitsyn
Maxim Lapierre
Francis Lemieux
Duncan Milroy
Jonathan Ferland
Michael Lambert
Cory Urquhart
Jimmy Bonneau
Kyle Chipchura*
Mikhail Grabovsky*
Mathieu Aubin*
Matt D'Agostini*
Greg Stewart*

* first year pro

Mind you, one of these forwards will make the Canadiens. There is a vacancy. Bonneau and Urquhart spent 05-06 with Long Beach (ECHL). As for the defensive corps ...

Dan Jancevski
J.P. Cote
James Sanford
Andre Benoit
Andrew Archer
Jon Gleed*
Alexandre Dulac-Lemelin*

It should be noted, that both Gleed and Dulac-Lemelin were signed to AHL contracts. If the Habs/Bulldogs do pursue another veteran. It will be a defenseman. Therefore, one of the kids will be sent to Cincinati (ECHL). No concerns with goaltending. Yann Danis and Jaroslav Halak are a fine duo.

Hmmmmm...........how about Pierre Dagenais???

He could teach some of our young prospects how to score in shootouts, and maybe give out a few power skating lessons....and if we ever get fed up with Rib's in Montreal, and send him to the minors, he probablely wouldn't feel as bad since his buddy is there.

Huh, no,
Jancevski was signed to an NHL contract by Montreal, Manlow was signed to an AHL contract by Hamilton

I could consider bringing in JP Vigier, Serge Aubin, Jason Doig and Eric Godard/John Erskine for some muscle, since we lost pretty much all of our toughness in Hamilton (Ivanans, Vandermeer, Aitken, Paul all gone). Scratch that if Bonneau makes the team.

Oh and Mathieu Biron=Patrick Traverse part 2. Stay the hell away from him.

there's a reason Biron isnt NHL material...

Ask caps fans what they think of him..

he should of become a knitting teacher instead...

Koltsov could be an interesting player to pickup. He is from Belarus and could find some very good chemistry with both Grabovsky and Kostitsyn (assuming both play in the AHL next year - very possible). As well, he is still young and seems to have some decent upside left. I know he has speed to burn.

Andrei Bashkirov part 2 ?

I always liked the speed aspect of the game, so yeah he would be welcome in Hamilton for sure, in the NHL he's a longshot now IMO, but who knows... perhaps he'll be able to harness his speed someday

As for the other choices, here's mines

Aubin (very good AHL scorer, and NHL filler if need arise)
Vigier (good AHL scorer, veteran)
Erskine (still has some untapped potential IMO)
Allison (lot of leadership, experience, but so damn fragile)
Doig (no hockey sense, but so much physical tools)

I never said Jancevski was on a AHL deal. Gleed and Dulac-Lemelin were. As is Manlow. Bottom line is, Jancevski will be a Bulldog. I'm sure he'll get called up if there are injuries.

Didn't P. Rehaume Retire? Aslo, I doubt Surovy takes a contract to play in the AHL when he can easily go tto Europe and get payed a lot more.

Since Jancevski's name doesn't appear on the NHLPA website my guess is that he has signed an AHL contract but is property of Montreal and not Hamilton.

Things are definitely looking up for the Bulldogs, IMO. I really like the potential for a scoring line involving Kostitsyn/Locke/Grabovsky and the grit combination from some part of Lapierre/Chipchura/Lemieux/Ferland (assuming one of them makes the Habs maybe). Then you've got Milroy and Manlow for some character two-way play. In theory maybe only a couple of the rest make the AHL and the others start in the ECHL. Presumably Lambert is the front runner to step up permanently. I don't think last season gave us any reason to really believe that Urquhart or Bonneau need to advance in the organisation, although training camp could change that. D'Agostini and Aubin are the wild cards who could go either direction. I sort of imagine Stewart starting off in the ECHL.

Signing an Aubin (if he'd take an AHL assignment at this stage) or Serge Payer or Jeff Hamilton (is he still available?) or Kent McDonnell or other type of forward would be good IMO.

On D, we have 5 in Jancevski, Cote, Sanford, Benoit, Archer. I think we need one more addition. Gleed would still see plenty of time with injuries and call-ups to Jancevski/Cote. So adding a vet like Nathan Dempsey, Steve Poapst, Jamie Rivers, or a more stay-at-home type like Alain Nasreddine, or a flashier younger type like Filip Novak (if they are all still available) would be nice. There are many options, but also many good options have been signed already, so I don't think the Habs should wait too long on this. (Alternatively, by waiting maybe some of the lesser NHL vet types who want to stay in North America and are shut out from the NHL will be more desperate to sign 2-way minimum deals closer to training camp).

His name doesn't appear on it because it was not on it at the end of the season

I'm sure Aubin will get an NHL deal somewhere when a team that hasn't done so yet gets around to filling out its fourth line. He's a good player to have.

Koltsov is an interesting option as some have suggested to add to Kostitsyn and Grabovsky in Hamilton. It's true we have a lot of forward depth down there, but they would all feel at ease with one another, could communicate very well, and could perhaps form some chemistry.

Hamilton is still unsigned from what I know, I'd be interested in him but imo the bigger need is on defense. Jancevski, Archer, Cote and Sanford are the top 4 next year with Benoit fitting in there.

I know that Cyclones were promised 3-5 players, I expect Dulac to be one of them, Gleed, Bonneau, Stewart could be others.

Gainey might be waiting to hear back from O'Byrne to see if he is going to sign or not. I was hoping they would bring Korpikari over this summer.

Exactly Dan..I'd like that as well. Since the Habs are going it alone again, I'm hoping they sign O'Byrne and a couple of their European prospects. I'm not sure about Buturlin, Korneev or Eneqvist's status, but if they're still Hab property bring 'em over. Same goes with Korpikari and Emelin if at all possible. Let's get some good depth back in the organization like the days of old when we were always good because teams wanted our minor league players.

Eric Manlow
Corey Locke
Andrei Kostitsyn
Maxim Lapierre
Francis Lemieux
Duncan Milroy
Jonathan Ferland
Michael Lambert
Cory Urquhart
Jimmy Bonneau
Kyle Chipchura*
Mikhail Grabovsky*
Mathieu Aubin*
Matt D'Agostini*
Greg Stewart*
Alex Buturlin*
Johan Eneqvist*

Dan Jancevski
J.P. Cote
James Sanford
Andre Benoit
Andrew Archer
Jon Gleed*
Emelin*
Korneev*
Korpikari*
O'Byrne*

Danis
Halak
Lacasse
Desjardins

Three forwards, two defencemen and a goalie or two sent to the ECHL.

Possible final AHL roster:

Danis
Halak

Dan Jancevski
J.P. Cote
James Sanford
Andre Benoit
Andrew Archer
Emelin*
Korpikari*
O'Byrne*

Eric Manlow
Corey Locke
Andrei Kostitsyn
Maxim Lapierre
Francis Lemieux
Duncan Milroy
Jonathan Ferland
Michael Lambert
Kyle Chipchura*
Mikhail Grabovsky*
Matt D'Agostini*
Greg Stewart*
Alex Buturlin*
Johan Eneqvist*

Work the rookies in as they earn it.

the Habs lose Eneqvist right this summer, thought it won't be a uge deal if they want to sign him,

-----------

BTW, for Kolstov, there is good chance I wouldn't sign with an AHL team because he signed with a Russian club a couple of weeks ago
