It does

But the money teams will save on travel and the energy players will save on travel means they are ok with it

Also considering expansion is as likely as it's ever been: the NHL is doing amazingly well in the US right now

So the West needs two teams to get to 16, Seattle and who else? Quebec, Markham, Hamilton wont be getting one since they are all in the east.

The thing with Florida is that they need to prove they can actually develop/keep talent. Florida has had high picks before, but those players always moved on when they hit UFA.

I didnt mean because theyll be good. More that it will get boring fast.

Although the chance at Montreal, Toronto, Boston, Detroit more than makes up for it

I thought our 1 game a year against Detroit has been pretty entertaining for most part. Looking forward to playing them multiple times and see how they adjust to a more offensive division/conference.

Yup, looking forward to seeing Sens vs Wings for top spot in the division. Move out the way Boston.

Yes, but Tallon could spend to the cap ceiling in Chicago. Florida made the biggest financial commitment in franchise history last year, and it only brought them up to being the 19th highest spending team.

Whether Florida will spend with the rest of the "Central Division" (it's going to be super-weird not calling it the Northeast anymore) or not is a big hurdle, Tallon or not.

As for the Detroit thing: I grew up as a Wings fan in the 80's, and until we got our team in Ottawa I was a massive Red Wings fan. Even after we got the Sens, the Red Wings were always my 2nd favorite NHL team, my "Western" team, and the only other NHL team I ever really cared about.

Not going to lie, having to root against them now is going to be pretty emotionally tough. Like watching your parents divorce and then having them ask you who you want to live with. Clearly I'm "Sens to the core", but it doesn't make the decision any less scarring.

I'm a Wings fan too, and there are some positive here:

(a) We will have greater exposure to the Wings
(b) The Wings will beat the Leafs more often
(c) The chances of the Wings or Sens making the playoffs are now higher

In terms of realignment, I guess we're now exactly like the MLB. Oh wait...

Why not leave Columbus in the West to have 15-15?
Then make it 16-16 after expansion? There is only Seattle in the West anyway.

You could argue that this whole realignment thing was because of Columbus.

Swapping just a few teams would've made more sense, rather than a complete change, yet here we are.

The whole reason for realignment is time zones.

Anyone know what the game format is suppose to be though?

I am guessing something along the lines of:
14 x 2 = 28 (Western Conference home/away)
7 x 6 = 42 (Divisional matchups)
8 x 4 = 12 (Other eight Eastern Conference teams home/away x 2)

Thought they broke it down last time before the PA shot things down. This time it seems like they are waiting to get the full go ahead before explain the rest unless I missed it somewhere.

Yeah I'm wondering how they balance the schedule between conference because you will have 28 out of conference in the east and 32 out of conference in the west.

Are they just going to drop two eastern teams a year from the west schedule? Or unbalance the in conference games.
