Edm - mon

HABS - Gionta, Weber

Edmonton - Hemsky, N. Schultz

All players could use a change of scenery?

we need more goalscorers, not playmakers ( and before any Oil fans comes in here to say that Hemsky has a bunch of goals this season, it doesn't matter. he's still a pass-first kind of guy. )

Schultz doesn't have much value for some time now. he used to be a pretty solid shutdown dman, but it's been downhill since Lemaire left Minnesota.

What is being offered wouldn't get you N.Schultz, ranks up there with the most ridiculous proposal.

Lets see where the Oilers are at once they complete their ritualistic QUICK TANK to get another first overall pick.

Once they secure Seth Jones then Tambellini, who will be given another RAISE , will consider trades.

But only if he can trade off talent for yet more picks and prospects.

Habs want strong gritty players with a good defensive game, "Glassman" Hemsky doesn't fit that bill.

A character guy and a decent puck moving dman can`t get you a slow number six dman now. Who knew

Ales Hemsky has a bruised foot and MIGHT miss a game only because it's a back to back.

Gionta is a small forward that is only effective in a top-6 role. Yes, that is what the Oilers need more of on their team.

Actually, you need leadership and guys who know how to win. Brown was a decent start. Get rid of the passengers and while you're throwing sarcasm out, try and remember he's the captain of the top team in the East

Lol what? Nick Schultz is so much more than a slow number six. And even if he was its still better than Weber. The oilers don't need to downgrade their defense.

Value wise it was Gionta and Weber, and that is more than enough to get Shultz. Is he slow? Yep. Is he better than a bottom pairing dman? On a bad team, yep, but he isn't anywhere near that on a good team. Is Weber a downgrade defensively? Yes. Offensively however, he is far better.

Yes, that is probably enough to get Schultz, so I'm not going to argue with that, I also agree that he'd be a bottom pairing dman on the good teams. But I have to correct you on the slow part, he is a mobile defenceman, there's no debating that. There's slow defenceman on the Oilers, Schultz is not one of them.

Anyhow, lack of size and downgrade defensively is the exact opposite the Oilers are looking for and judging by Montreal poster's comments, they aren't looking for playmaking forwards either, so this trade just does not make any sense, value aside.

Only player I see the Habs having interest in from Edm (besides the untouchable kids) is MPS and he'll cost.

Lots of oil sniffing and Molson drinking going on in this thread. My two favourite teams, and the fans of them are completely off base in this thread.

Not a chance Montreal is dumb enough to do that.

How does this help the Oilers, some Hab fans must think Tambo is really stupid to consider a trade like this.

Nick Schultz is not a number six d-man. He's a good second pair guy, and Weber doesn't come close. We'd probably need Emelin instead if we're trading Schultz, but I get why Montreal doesn't do that.

Hemsky and Gionta are probably somewhat close in value, but it would be a lateral move, we don't need another small, speedy winger. If we trade Hemsky its for a #2 d-man or a big, physical winger.

Gionta may be Papa Smurf, but he is still a smurf (and if he is as key to the Habs resurgence as you claim why are you trying to trade such leadership away?). The Oilers pass because they need to acquire a better asset than Gionta if they are trading Hemsky. A small top-6 forward is just not a good fit for the organizational needs right now.
