If you just grab some guy and beat the **** out of them in a rec hockey league, I'm pretty sure you can get charged with assault and do some serious time for it.

It's not the NHL where a lot of those laws don't apply.

I recently had a dude throw a ton of punches at me. We both had full shields on, so I just let him go for it and he got a five game suspension.

Stupid, I don't understand why you even bother throwing rights at the other dude in that situation. I'm glad that I resisted my urge to punch his kidney since I was able to avoid a suspension and be back on the ice next game.

Did I mention this is C league. I could MAYBE understand it in A league, with a young dude just out of college, or higher level hockey....but C league, and it was a 40+ grown man!

I wouldn't maybe go that far, but I also enjoy when there's some action between our team and the opponents. Always more fun when people at least seem to care about the game, even if it's just a beer league match.

I screwed up a job and my boss hollered at me today. That's ok, I can get rid of my frustration playing rec league tonight.

My wife and I are having financial problems. That's ok, I play rec league tonight.

On the way to the rink, some jerk cut me off and I almost got killed. That's ok, I'm playing hockey tonight.

I don't think that I deserved that speeding ticket. What the heck, I play rec league tonight.

I have to go speak to my son's school principal tomorrow about a problem he's having. Rec league game tonight baby.

Funny, it always seems to be mom involved in those kinds of things.

im by no means a dirty player, but i hate when people start taking shots at the weaker players on our team.

we had one game where off every faceoff, their big winger would knock my teammate down with hacks to his foot, so after he did this a few times i lined up against him and did the same thing to him, told him if i saw that **** again it would be worse. he backed down.

A guy swung his stick at my head intentionally, I punched him numerous times in the head and neck. I got suspended and I didn't care.

Only time I've ever gotten physical in rec was this:

Last year, we were in the championship round (Best of 3.) We were a good, but incredibly top heavy team. We had four really good players, three of which played on a line. That line was a center who played AAA Midget in Winnipeg with some current NHLers, a converted goalie with an incredible wrist shot (we tested it a few years back, it was in the high 60s, low 70s), and myself, a good player in organized hockey due to my size and strength, and my willingness to get mauled in front of the net for a screen. Anyhow, the first game of the championship round, the AAA center gets absolutely smashed by a hip check, and then, when he's LAYING ON THE ICE, this goon decides to punch him in the back of the head. It all happened behind the play, and no refs saw it, and I was the only one with in distance to do something. I skated, full speed, and put my elbow through the guy's head. When he got up, we fought (I like to think I won) and I was escorted off the ice and suspended from the league for a year, while the other guy got 3 games.

Basically, what I'm saying, is that there is a place for physical play in beer league: When the other team starts something that isn't ended by refs.

Only time I've gotten physical in rec league was when I was younger and got frustrated with the officiating. I was taken down a few times during a game and it wasn't called. Tripped up some random opponent from behind and started punching him while we were down.

Got tossed and suspended a game. Apologized to the guy I went after later. He had no hard feelings at least.
