None of us are, but it will be fun nonetheless. Plus it will force us to become better teams in the long run, which is a good thing.

probably deserving of its own thread... but is chicago really a sustainable team? How are they going to pay all this talent?

Their "dominance" will likely be cyclical, like many things in life. However, for the next few years at least, they will be the leaders of this pack.

I wish they'd left Detroit or Columbus in "West" and kept the old playoffs system until we get the two expansion teams. Can't complain, though.

We've all had a taste of the Minnesota Winnipeg games last year. It's a shame the lockout postponed Minnipeg games to next year, but we all remember those games and how intense they were. I think it's safe to say this rivalry could be renewed bigtime, and depending on how good both of the teams get down the road, even rival the PIT-PHI rivalry!

They've only played twice, lets not get ahead of ourselves.

So I haven't looked into this much this time around. Is the plan still to have 1 home and 1 road game against every team in the other conferences? Then the rest against your conference. This was the plan last year iirc.

Love getting into the same division as Chicago, regardless of how brutal it will be in the near future. Bummed about Detroit not only staying out of the division but leaving the conference entirely.

Good news, but I still don't understand why there are 14 teams in the "West" and 16 teams in the "East."

1) Phoenix is going to have to move eventually.

2) Of the like expansion/relocation areas, 1 is in the West (Seattle) and 2 are in the East (Southern Ontario, Quebec).

So, is Detroit and Columbus going to have to come back to the "West" in a few years anyways?

Just doesn't make sense.

Hence the reevaluation in 2014-15. I speculate the main goal of this initial realignment plan was to get Winnipeg out of the East. Two seasons of being in the wrong conference is terribly unfair.

My buddy and I have already decided we're going up to Winnipeg when the Wild go there next season. From Forks, it's about 2 1/2 hours to Winnipeg, rather than the 4 1/2 it is to St. Paul.

Nice! Love the realignment.

Well Winnipeg could have been moved without moving Detroit or Columbus. In fact, that was the original plan. 16 in West. 14 in East.

But they changed it for some reason, and nobody has pointed that out.

Poor Edmonton and Calgary. They go from one weak division to a very strong division.

I think my favorite part of the realignment is playing every team twice. I heard there's a league that is similar to the NHL but plays out east.

Being in the "West" may make it easier on them... just slightly, though.

"East" teams = 16 * 2 = 32 games against.
Out of division "West" teams = 7 * 3 = 21

53 games against non-divisional teams...

That leaves only 29 games to be divided against their 6 tougher divisional opponents.

Eddy will be fine, Calgy won't. lawlz.

Which, speaking in pure hypotheticals...

Wild are with: Winnipeg, Chicago, St. Louis, Dallas, Nashville, and Colorado.

Winnipeg is really turning around and I have a decent amount of respect for where their teams is heading, in looking at their future.
Chicago... Who knew that Crawford would suddenly learn how to stop a puck?
St. Louis... Remains scary looking into the future.
Dallas... After this year, all they have is an aging net minder who is getting slightly worse every season. They do have a good future #1 there, though.
Nashville... Weber and Rinne. Poile always finds a way and will typically have 4 good years to 1 bad year.
Colorado... Still not sold on this group, honestly. Bad GM is bad... If Sherman gets canned and somehow Burke replaces him... Yeah. Bad mojo for the Wild.

Wild is already the 3rd best team of that bunch and is only getting better.

LOVE the anger coming from the East. They've had the easiest schedules.

This renewal doesn't benefit the Finns at all. I'm okay with waking up at 5.30 to watch games in Anaheim or Calgary but seriously that 7pm CST is 3am, the ********* time to get up.

True.

I highly doubt that factored into the decision though. "Hey Gary, what about Minnesota's Finnish fanbase? They'd hate having to get up at 3 AM constantly..."
