Point Disparity Goals vs Assists

Wasn't sure whether to post this here or in By The Numbers so hopefully I picked the right one. Anyway Jeff Carter is currently on pace for a 59 Goal 8 Assist season over 82 games. He currently sits at 16 G 2 A in 21, which got me thinking about the largest Disparity of Goals vs Assists a player has ever posted. Most of the time you see this with playmakers guys like H. Sedin 10 G 71 A, J Thornton 22 G 92 A, or A Oates 25 G 90 A.

But I was wondering how much of a statistical anomaly it is to have a guy score that many goals with so little assists. The first guy that came to mind was Grabner who posted 34 G 18 A but that's really not that much the difference from G to A is only 16 points. Then I thought of Cheechoo but he still put up 37 A in his 56 G season. The last name I thought of was Bure, who put up 59 G with only 33 A in 00-01 with the Panthers for a 26 point differential. So I guess my question is who has done something like this? Is it as unprecedented as it appears?

Closest I can think of:

Peter Bondra led the NHL in goals in the lockout-shortened 1994-95 with 34. He had 9 assists to go with his 34 goals.

He finished 4th in All-Star voting for Right Wing.

Some others:

Other impressive modern-day Cy Young winners over the years have been: Wendel Clark (34-11 in 1985-86), Ray Sheppard (30-10 in 1994-95), Eric Daze (31-11 in 1997-98) and Rick Nash (41-16 in 2003-04).

Here's some other seasons that haven't already been mentioned. Players Leach, Bondra, Clark and Gartner often had a lot more goals than assists. As TDMM said, Bondra's '95 shortened season is probably the modern standard.

'86 Tim Kerr 58G, 26A (+32)
'76 Reggie Leach 61G, 30A (+31)
'91 Mike Gartner 49G, 20A (+29)
'79 Ron Sedlbauer 40G, 16A
'99 Adam Graves 38G, 15A
'77 Reggie Leach 32G, 14A
'83 Perry Turnbull 32G, 15A
'93 Petr Klima 32G, 16A
'99 Wendel Clark 32G, 16A

But I think this has to do with the fact that very few assists were awarded back in the days. Several players had 10-20 goals that season, four players had 20+ goals, but no-one had more than 10 assists.

I think brett hull may be the winner besides the guy in the 1917 season. 90-91 86 goals 45 assists.

Maybe. But history never ask, how did you won, but IF did you won.

Well, I think at least the history forum asks how you won. And rightly so.

Not quite what you're asking, but an interesting tidbit is that Lanny McDonald holds the records for most goals in a season (66) without getting 100 points.

Marek Svatos had 20 goals and 2 assists at one point (I think it must've been in '08), but then unfortunately started accumulating more assists.
