Confused as to why toronto is in your list... You'd have to think Hartford is on that list too...

Because they are already building a new arena in Markham (a suburb of Toronto). They were also rumored/negotiating to get Phoenix as the team to relocate there.

Honestly, I'm not worried about relocation anyway because I would bet that Seattle gets a team first so Phoenix, if they had to move, would go there not disrupting the newly proposed alignment anyway. Though KC already has a NHL-caliber arena too so they could be a target and would remain in the west.

If they ever do another expansion, I definitely could see Quebec & Toronto as the 1st two that get teams. Quebec is also building a new arena so they would make sense and the NHL knows they would have the fan support there. Obviously if they do expand, that would be when they would have to do another re-alignment.

IMO if Pho continues to fail to stablize then the NHL would be smart to sell franchise at discount to KC

Could be just the thing to entice a ownership group to step forward getting NHL team for cheap

Then when Seattle or QC/Tor get a team you make them pay big expansion fees

Kansas City already had a team - the Scouts. Just because they have an arena do they deserve a team?

Kansas City would be the fourth on this list.

Well just like people got tired of the same old playoff matchups, I think they want them back now. Just like that guy wants to put us in a divison that makes no sense just so the old Adams and Patrick divisions can be put back together.

It will be fun to see more of Detroit though.
And like someone said before, these teams will be good for ticket sales.

Welcome to the division, guys. You can hang out with Ottawa if you like. We're pretty nice. Stay away from Montreal and Toronto... they're bullies. Boston is okay. Buffalo eats glue, I think.

Yeah, but you'll soon hate the Leafs for their legions of fans that regurgitate media-duopoly team propaganda and get all yelly in your barn.

This sport just got lots more political in Florida.

I'm not a fan. Any way you look at it, the Eastern teams will have a harder time making the playoffs than the Western teams.

I really hope they fix this, but even if they take the top 3 teams in each division and then the top 4 wildcards from any conference, it still means that Western conference teams have a greater chance of being a top 3 team in their division. Then there would be all the travel headaches that are involved with this type of set-up.

I know some of you will say that baseball had a similar set-up for years and you're right, but just because another sport had an imbalanced playoff format doesn't mean that hockey should have one too.

To those of you complaining about the teams that make up our conference and the extra travel time, you can likely thank Yorkman and the business side. I suspect that the business side of the Panthers pushed for this because of the additional ticket revenues

The two southern most located teams in the league in the central division. Makes sense.

They overthought this way too much. Why not just swap Winnipeg with Nashville or Columbus and be done with it?

Because that wouldn't solve the problem which brought about this whole realignment thing in the first place. Putting Detroit in the East.

Someone proposed this alignment on Twitter to me today and this is the next best option that I could think of:

15 teams in each conference. 8 in one division and 7 in the other.

Anaheim
Calgary
Edmonton
Los Angeles
Phoenix
San Jose
Vancouver

Chicago
Colorado
Columbus
Dallas
Detroit
Minnesota
St. Louis
Winnipeg

Buffalo
Montreal
NY Rangers
NY Islanders
Philadelphia
Pittsburgh
Toronto
Ottawa

Boston
Carolina
Florida
Nashville
New Jersey
Tampa Bay
Washington
Never in a million years would this happen. Why? Because you have Boston in a different division then Montreal.

They should go back to the names of the divisions with names like Lester "Patrick Division"

Also stupid how we have less of a chance to make the playoffs in the east

Am I wrong when I say that leaving the West two teams short pretty much guarantees an expansion? Otherwise they could've just keep Columbus in the West and all would've been even and fine?

Well I'm not 100% happy with the arrangement but I'll take it regardless. Travel-wise, it's going to suck but the league has no real reason to care about us compared to the stupidity that teams like Detroit, Columbus, Winnipeg, and Dallas go through by crossing time zones constantly. This is a necessary evil.

Just like how Toronto and Montreal would never be split apart? Oh wait...that happened.

This is a really poor realignment plan.
