Chelsea with no passion against a super motivated Steaua, but I expect Chelsea to still progress to the next stage

Lazio with one foot already in the quarters after a 2:0 away win at Stuttgart

Fenerbahce with a crucial 1:0 away win at Plzen

Yeah, give Lampard that contract. Totally clutch tonight

How the **** did Mikel get a contract extension? He's barely a League one player. He's actually afraid of making a forward pass or a through pass. Mikel is where plays go to die.

Bertrand was awful. Benitez giving his old Pool mates Benayoun and Torres (although we don't have much choice on that front, fml) some love. Puts on Marin who is just mediocre and brings on Mata...drum roll please...in the 65th minute. He actually waited 20 minutes before deciding, "oh I might want to put my best player on the pitch because we're ****ing losing".

Take you BS management and holier than thou attitude and get the **** out Rafa. Trying his best to turn this team into the next Liverpool

You shouldn't base Lampard on one game. What he's done for the club far outweighs that. He deserves a year extension at least. Average result for Newcastle they would've loved an away goal though. I don't think they'll do it at home though.

Sigurdsson 2:0

The tie may get away from Inter completely

Inter somewhat has come back in the last 5 minutes of the first half

i thought he got clipped...figured the ref would just tell him to get up and move along...the card was over the top...either way...up 2-0 if we can pot another 1 or 2 and just seal this up, fine by me...the officiating has been atrocious in the first half...

Not at all, he tried to buy the penalty by dangling his leg onto the defenders already planted foot, it is a dive and it is a yellow

The ITV commentators and pundits for tonight agree it's a dive

Newcastle need to win their match to move on. Fair enough. Thats how it should be. If Anzhi play away like they did at Liverpool, I'll like NUFCs chances. Hopefully Cisse is healthy (and by all accounts he should be over his illness by then).

Most of today's game has been close and still possible for both teams go to through

Only Tottenham & Lazio are probably safe.

Anzhi 0 - 0 Newcastle Utd
Plzen 0 - 1 Fenerbahce
Steaua Bucuresti 1 - 0 Chelsea
VfB Stuttgart 0 - 2 Lazio
Basel 1 - 0 Zenit Petersburg
Benfica 1 - 0 Bordeaux
Levante 0 - 0 Rubin Kazan
Tottenham 3 - 0 Inter

Basel deserved to win but that second goal was a gift. Perfect tackle from the Zenit defender in the 94th minute, he got sent off and Basel got a PK to score their second.

What a game my team played I was really worried about Zenit and all but they absolutely showed nothing.

Pretty excited to win against such a big team and all those racist ******* supporters

Three straight clean sheets in Yurp for NUFC now, and its the first time Anzhi have been denied a goal at "home". Yanga-Mbiwa was superb and James Perch showed yet again that when he has the play on front of him he's very capable. Both full backs did well too. Elliott's low second half save from Eto'o was splendid.

At half time, I'd have advocated chucking Obertan out of the plane on the flight home, so slack had been his play. To his credit he revived a bit after the break, but you wonder what goes through the fellow's head. I don't think the team was patient enough in possession for much of the game.

There's a distinct possibility that the second leg will be one of those nights of crushing disappointment for which SJP is so famous. I think Anzhi will score.

Hiddink and Eto'o have both been eliminated from Yurp on Tyneside before. Hopefully history repeats itself.

I think there was just a slight amount of contact but Bale simulated the hell out of it.
