I know this has nothing to do with the Habs but I think this is a good move by the Oilers.
Curious to know what some of you guys think.
I say it will start off a 3.5-4million a year and move up to 5.8$ million in the final year. Although 6 years is a long time but, when you can lock a player of that caliber at 22 for that long, I say go for it. If the price is right of course.
Everyone seem happy about it on the general forums , buy myself i think it's a lot of money for a guy that never scored 20g.
It could turn out to be a very good deal in 3-4years tho. Hemsky is a sick player and very fun to watch.
well he NEVER scored 20 goals, maybe that's cause he's not 23 yet...
I think that's gonna turn out to be a heck of a bargain for the Oil in the long run. in 2-3 years, 4 mill a year for this guy will be a STEAL !!!
Rumour has it at 6yr 24 million. Great deal for Lowe, in three years time when Hemskky would have been a UFA someone would have offered him close to the Max. He's that good!

well if that is the contract i say it is probably a good gamble. As all long term contracts are now. Especially such a long one as this(6yrs).
If it's 6 years for 24.6, starting at $3.5M this year and going up to $5M at the end, well, it sounds like a steal to me. Hemsky is as good as Briere, Gomez, Havlat and that lot IMHO. Or at least within a year or two he will be. Lowe.
The one big problem I see with this deal is that he'll be a UFA in his prime (28) once it expires. I would have tried to sign him to a 4 year deal instead. The Oilers would then still have a year to sign him long term before he hits the UFA market...
I don't know when his birthday is, so my years may be off by one...

He already has 4 years of service (the lockout year is included) so he could have become a UFA in 3 more seasons. He gave up his first 3 years of unrestricted free agency in this contract.
Now that we get to see how much the deal actually is. I tink this move is even better.
A player of that caliber for 4.1 million (average over the 6years) is excellent.
I think that if he was able to get 77 points in 81 games and he's only 22, it's a good deal, not only for the Oilers but for Hemsky as well. It shows the plkayer that they do beleive in him as it shows that Hemsky wants to be part of the team too.
I think that this will simply avoid head aches of arbitration etc.. in the years upto his free agency. Therefore gives a better chance of him staying with the team.
