Haley shows you don't have to be a giant to win heavyweight fights, good example Chris Neil messed up Colton Orr last night, pretty good

I have been too. The Crosby/Malkin team have a sense of entitlement IMO--not hard to understand as talented as they are--and that game took them down a peg or two.

You are kidding right ? Neil won for sure as he fought Orr at the end of his shift and Orr did nothing but to say messed him up is a huge joke and really bad description of the fight. Haley is one tough sob but not in the class of a most heavyweights he will beat guys like asham more then not but not a boulton or Thornton

Orr let Neil in close and couldn't handle him, Neil landed a bunch more punches...did you see the fight?

Messed up is misleading, but he won convincingly, Orr did nothing in that fight

LOL your asking me if i saw the fight lol. Sure i did I have watched every single fight in the nhl / ahl since 1974 and have the video collection to prove it..I am not questioning you as to who won 100% neil did, but messed is way off base. Orr was at the end of a long shift and held on and was not interested in the fight.. Neil is a favorite of mine but he loses 8out of 10 to Orr

That's why I was surprised, I couldn't believe it was Orr, I consider Neil a light heavyweight...you have all those fights on tape, you must be almost as old as me, my favorite fighter was the Rangers Ron Harris

Why? He is an effective energy player with his skating and hitting. He isn't just some goon.

mio lol first off i loved Eddie Mio he was a huge favorite of mine. Ron Harris was a rock for the Rangers .. I am 42 been collecting fights since 81 in back of the hockey news. I have thousands of hours. I loved Fotiu and Beck as a kid then moved to Vial Domi & Poescheck i was impressed with a Rookie troy Mallete and really was a huge fan of Orr's as a Ranger. Funny how these PC kids on this site don't understand or appreciate old school tough hockey when each team had 5-7 guys who would be nhl King or champ today

uh oh! He has done pretty good overall. If he continues he could earn a spot as the spare F this yr and next. Asham and Richards go in for Bickel and Haley when healthy

Zenith why didn't they let Bickel fight Finley last night? Finley hit Bickel and ran and hid behind the linesman...

Has nothing to do with being PC. You have an overblown obsession over one part of the game that isn't even critical to a team's success. That would be like us PC kids saying how great the shootout is and collect shootout videos. Every game should have 3 shootouts, one after each period. The Rangers should sign and dress Mr. Poopy Hockeyplayer because he is money in the shootout. He can't skate, pass, or play defense but man what a shot! This team needs more shootout specialists. Five to seven of them at least. They'll make other teams think twice about using their back-up for shootouts! 1!! 1

Do you see how dumb that sounds? Now substitue everything I said about shootouts with fighting and goons and that is roughly what you sound like 90% of the time. Also those 5-7 players you mention could all play hockey as well as be tough. The game is changing. The kids playing today are focusing on skill, speed and smarts. This is a fact you need to accept and move on. If you truly enjoy hockey and not violence, you will get over it.

Haley was good again last night. Stirring it up, hitting. He is a good skater which makes him effective at this level. Hope he sticks. The Rangers need a young, hungry heart and soul player.

Go play ps3 kid . Your clueless .. I know how the game has changed don't worry. I am far from obsessed with just goons, I just know it isn't smart to be the only team without one. Now go away and let me and IMO enjoy our conversations

Yeah, fighting has a place in the game. So your analogy doesn't make sense.

Apparently so do shootouts since there is one everytime a game goes past a 5 minute OT in the regular season. They even reward you with an additional point for winning them. How does fighting have a place in the game but a shootout doesn't? They're both insignificant parts of the game except for that one can earn you points in the standings and the other cannot. I'm not sure you even read my post correctly.

I understand your point, but you then went too far with your story for 3 shootouts. That's all.

Fighting has a way of bringing teams together and changing momentum. Of course you will say it is not quantifiable in terms of points but very smart hockey minds believe it has a place in the game and value it.

You know the game has changed but still feel a goon is necessary. That's confusing.

Players who are tenacious, gritty, blue collar grinders that stick up for their teammates and still play hockey, are necessary. Goons are not. They're useless. You are not obsessed but after a win you are getting on people's cases for calling a spade a spade and pointing out how useless Bickel is instead of people unnecessarily taking a dump on players who don't deserve it.

Since we're talking about goons here, IDK how you can say that Bickel isn't useless. Plays 4 minutes a night, takes a dumb penalty in his miniscule TOI, then celebrates with the team as if the win had anything to do with him. Can they just waive him now?

Okay, then forget about the exaggeration as far as 3 shootouts go. How is:

"Dress a guy who can't play hockey, but can beat people up and look scary, yet despite all that won't stop your players from getting run."

Any different then:

"Dress a guy who can't play hockey but has a great shot and dekes well, so he can give them an edge if there is a shootout."

Both statements are absurd.

It's not the Lucics of the NHL I have a problem with. It's the John Scotts. The difference being Lucic can do everything Scott can, oh and he's a first line winger on top of that. I know Lucic type players do not grow on trees but then settle for a Brandon Prust. Anything but a John Scott. We had our guy in Sauer and it's a damn shame what happened to him, but Stu ****ing Bickel isn't the answer. Michael Haley is a step in the right direction.
