I see the Habs gave up 43 shots and won 4-2, Canes must of hit the chest 41 times cause goalies dont have to stop screens, tips, breakaways or odd man rushes ??

But the thing is, if your boss tells you to go all out and balls to the wall for something. You're getting it done regardless. You're putting the most money out there that you can.

Bob is my favorite goalie, so i catch every columbus game that he starts.

He's had some great moments, but he's also let in a few pretty soft goals. All and all he's playing for a team that's MUCH worse than us and putting up better numbers. He's having a pretty good season.

He's really hot now, i'd like to see how long this hot streak lasts.

This is a new thing for Bob. Usually he starts hot then peters out...midseason hot streak is interesting.

Paul is still responsible, it is his job. There should still be a limit or line that you don't go over. The GM should know that, especially for a team always near the cap limit. If the GM wants to operate close to the ceiling he has to determine the consequences for each decision made and the directions that can happen. If something seems to be not feasible he needs to go to Snider and explain to him or move in a different direction.

Also, I would not put the most money I can out there. I would look for the best goalie I could get. That means looking at all goalies, how they play, and determining if they can fit the team or not. I am sure Paul did some of this, but maybe not enough. If he didn't then he should be fired. I remember watching the Coyotes-Red Wings series and seeing Bryz let in many soft goals, so when we traded for him, I was like no. Then, I hear the terms and I was shocked.

The whole ordeal with Bryz made me realize that Paul doesn't really plan ahead.

What's done is done and nothing can be changed. Luckily, we have amnesties to use and one of them must be saved/used on Bryz's atrocious contract.

Very true. He also never had the opportunity to play this often last year. We've all heard about his work ethic, he's probably in the best shape of his life and he could be benefiting from the bigger work load instead of suffering.

Fact is his numbers are significantly better on a much worse team.

I think their system is: "try not to look like the worst team in the league every game" system.

I'd still rather have Bernier, Lehner, Allen or Bishop over Bob right now. Not saying Bob is bad, but those 4 guys would be a much better base for the Flyers in terms of young, talented goalies.

Why do we have a goalie who only plays well when everyone else plays like ****?

And you guys were curious how he put up those great numbers in Phoenix.

You do realize that going all the way back to 2008-2009 for a comparison means you're reaching, right?

When Steve Mason won the Calder, Ken Hitchcock (known for his tight defense) was at the helm. Since then, there's been 3 different head coaches.

His goalie coach that year nearly blew his head off with shotgun leaving Mason without goalie coach that year.

Everything about the team is embarrassing, including Bryzgalov.

this team has no heart. to come out flat in the 2nd IS embarrassing, just like Hartnell said.

between MAF & Bryz's 8 goals against, there was 1 "bad" goal: Kimmo's wrister.
1st goal for Pitt:
a Briere lazy dump out, a Gus turnover, Bryz gets pushed back after making the 1st save, Bruno leave Dupuis all alone instead of tying up his stick.

i saw a great Bryz poke check, great rebound control on the PK - he bailed them out.

Coburn puts one into our net & Bryz never saw Kennedy's shot

for all the SOG & scoring chance guys: Kimmo's wrister & the slam dunk on the 5th goal both count equally: 1 SOG & 1 scoring chance. typical SOG / scoring chance agaianst the Flyers.

lemme guess: Varly would have stopped that 5th goal ...

only 1 of the 9 goals was a "bad" goal.

AWFUL play by Kimmo on that 5th goal, BTW

My post from another discussion.

Quote:
Also for being pathetic on the defensive side of the puck our stats vs the league are pretty darn good. 6th in shots against (27.2/gm) 11th on the PK (83.5% conversion) and I also believe I heard JJ say last night that we were top 5 in the league for shots blocked (Grossman leads the league), yet we find ourselves 25th in the league in GAA with a 3.05 average.
Pretty much a repeat of last year.

Defense is average to above average in a lot of stats VS the league but stats centered around our "elite" goaltender are pretty much at the bottom of the barrel.

We're pretty much playing with a backup as our starter and an AHL backup as our backup

Flyers fans: eternally looking for a half way decent goalie

Blame the 2 guys eating 12 mill in space that hinders team from improving.

Which would you prefer Bryz and Briere or 3 mill goalie, 2 mil back up, 5 mill Dman , and 2 mill defensive fwd that pk's or face of specialist ?

That resembles the 09-10 team. The one that was a pre-season Cup favorite and went to the Finals.

Salary cap matters. Tying up space in dead weight, overpaying underperforming players...these things add up. You need the most bang for your buck. Bryz is not bringing any bang for any bucks, and combined with Briere...those two will be eating nearly 20% of the team's cap hit next year. 18.8%, to be exact, which can be rounded up to 19%.
