Think he was motivated playing on the team w/ Pronger. Now he looks kinda lost, doesn't have the mean streak, just playing without full effort.

Could it be with Schenn coming here and Timmo getting extension, he has some resentment of not having opportunity of being top dog?

How long has he been in the league? he should know how the business is by now. Coburn is still getting paid very well. That is no excuse for his poor play this season.
I dont think anyone is overreacting when it comes to Coburn. Hes frustrating to watch because we have all seen how good he can be. problem is he doesnt show it.
for a big guy with a high end skill set he sure plays small most nights.
Personally I think it may be good for him if hes dealt. Maybe hes got Joni Pitkanen disease. He cant handle the limelight, pressure ect et. Or maybe hes just playing scared since eating a puck in the playoffs serveral years ago.

I would be surprised if that had anything to do with this down year. Hockey players seem to be different than other sports, I think it is pretty rare for a hockey player to complain that they are not the top position player on the team. Goalies it probably happens with more frequently.

A team like Colorado could use coburn. If were willing to take on a project like Siemans and pic i think it could work. Of course that would kill us for the present.

He plays better in the playoffs. He's the defensive version of Danny Briere.

This game is why Coburn is very important for us. As bad as he is in some areas of the game he is a great puck handling defenseman on a team with horrible puck handling defenseman.

Coburn is not worth criticizing with all of the other deficiencies on this team.

Just saying in terms of stats:

Coburn has the most minor penalties in the NHL at 17.
Coburn has the 3rd most giveaways this season with 29 (behind Kovy and Hamonic).
Coburn is 244th in the league in +/- for defensemen (-9).

Sure is with the stats Solid just provided for us. Coburn looks like a lost clause out on the ice some nights.

In other words in case anybody hasn't noticed so far Coburn is struggling mightily this season so far.
He was asked to shoulder a bigger load and looks awful out there.

Coburn absolutely deserves critisism. Is he the only one? no but hes been brutal this year. Poor decisions mentally and physically on the ice. Its frustrating as hell. The guy has all the tools to be a really good defenseman. Maybe its all above the neck with him.

I think you added an "l" in there, instead of saying "cause".

It's possible that this year might be a fluke for Coburn though. Last year (81 games):

+/- of +10 (44th out of all D-men)
43 Giveaways (he's on pace for 95 giveaways and 36 takeaways in an 82 game season this year)
33 Takeaways
22 minor penalties and 2 majors (fights). Hell, he had one interference call last year, he has 5 this year.

I'm just wondering how the hell he's a -9 when Grossman is a +1. That's a pretty big discrepancy for defensive partners.

Comes out on ice on a line change, gives up puck, they score, his partner didn't come on yet. Just guessing.

Probably has more to do with him playing with Gervais and Gustaffson alot. He also gets the first shift after a PP, often without Grossmann, which I don't really get.

If deserved criticism after a lot of of disappointing play is the Carle treatment, then yes he is.
