A interesting night for hockey, to be sure. CBJ beats the Nucks, Deadmonton gets exposed by Detroit again, and Florida takes it up the ass from the Caps.

Man that Sportscenter top 10 of the best moments for the Blackhawks this season is amazing.

The things they have done this season is truly incredible.

I watched the Kings stars game last night and Cody Eakin looks good in Dallas this year. 15 points in 23 games and very good two way player. that was a nice trade for the stars? Didn't hurt to get Mike Winther with the extra 2nd round pick.

Ryan Getzlaf just re-signed in Anaheim. 8 years.

I think we're all anticipating Perry's decision now.

Rumour is that Perry has no interest in re-signing in Anaheim. Urgh I was hoping Fairy would be the one to re-sign on the Ducks and they would finish 6th place in the Pacific Division forever, never improving or getting top talent

The good news that I can continue to hate both Gatzlaf brothers playing for teams I want to see fail

Just imagine the kind of money Getzlaf would have made if he managed to crack 12 goals last season.

Lot of money for Getz, but guys like him are rare. Good in Anaheim for locking him up.

Getz said he didn't want to move so this one was easy to see coming.

I might be in the minority on this one, but I think Getzlaf's deal is too much. Yeah, yeah, everyone wants a big #1C, but with the cap going down to 64 million next year, it remains to be seen how the best rosters will be constructed. In my estimation a top heavy roster with a couple of guys making 8 million plus doesn't seem like the best way to build a winner. The exception being if you somehow we able to also bolster the top heavy lineup with guys on ELC's playing above their levels.

I just saw that the Senators are 11-1-1 in their last 13 reg. season games at the Madison Square Garden.

They're about to make it 12-1-1

Uh oh that might put it away. 5-1 now. If the Hawks can come back from this then that's amazing.

This will be the going rate for #1 centres though..over the next few years at least..then it will go up. For the best, like Malkin, it will be approx. $10 million per.

$8 Million per season might seem like a lot right now, with the cap at $64 million next season, but as the cap goes up each year (and it will unless the Canadian dollar goes in the tank) that cap hit will become smaller and smaller. So next year, Getzlaf's cap hit will be 12.5% of the team cap. However, if league revenue increases at a similar rate as that from 2005 - 2012 ($39 million - $70 million), it wouldn't be a surprise to see the cap increase around $3 - $5 million per season.

So for example, 3 seasons from now in 2016, the cap could conceivably be $75 - $80 reducing Getzlaf's cap hit, as a percentage of the team cap from 12.5% to 10.5% - 10%. As time goes on, assuming NHl revenues increase at a similar rate, Getzlaf's contract value will diminish relative to Anaheim's total cap and should allow them to continue signing key RFAs and UFAs.

Personally I think it's a good contract once you consider the new rules with regards to contracts - no cap circumention, meaning no tacked on years at $1 - $3 million per year from years 12 - 15.

How painful is it to be an Oilers fan right now? Out scored 14-2 in 3 of their last 4 games with zero compete level.

fanboy owner with best friend as president and their wives are best GF's......what could possibly go wrong?

In fairness it's easy to be hypercritical when a team is having a brutal slump on a prolonged road trip but it let's you know just getting a lottery draft pick let alone three doesn't nessesarily mean things turn around instantly.

The Oilers management is a joke and Tambellini's collection of fantasy draft players aren't a team.

I understand your point about the contract looking better if the cap goes up. I just don't like the idea of needing that to take place for the contract to look good. I still don't think we've seen a contract signed under the new cba which reflects the changes in the cap. It seems like the contracts are pretty comparable to the older , higher cap.

I like the move made by Tom Brady. Sure he's rich and doesn't need a few extra million on his deal, but he also knows that if he takes too much of the pie, that his team might be worse for it.

If Katz blew it up and I was the incoming GM I'd be salivating. That team has so many trading chips. Identify the players to keep (Smid, Shultz, Eberle, RNH, Paajarvi, Gagner) get rid of dead weight like Whitney and use guys like Hall and Yakupov to get big strong mean players with some skill.

That roster is stocked, but the balance is way, way off. They just need someone shrewd in there who can make the right moves, and then get a coach there who can coach young players effectively.

Of course with Lowe and Katz being best buds who knows, but I don't think that Katz will put up with losing forever. I'd imagine he isn't used to failure and is near the end of his rope.
