With contract lengths maxed out at 8 years and year to year variables limited, we can ALL forget about hometown discounts on contracts going forward.

RFA Bridge contracts do not fall in the same catagory.

Perry is going to get at least 50+ million on a 7 year deal come July.

fans want a salary cap, there are significant side-effects to that.

When a #1 center is due to hit the market, this is what he's going to get paid. It isn't abnormal at all, or even a bad deal. A bad deal is not keeping your #1 center.

Probably less because Giroux is an RFA.

So much complaining about the cap hit, when the cap hit doesn't matter to the Ducks. We aren't a max team, so real dollars matter more then cap hit. His real dollars is the same or less then any of the other recent contract.

Just when you thought the Parise deal could not look worse. Anaheim can say goodby to Perry. Ryan has wanted out for a few years. Bad deal.

So much stupidity in this thread.

These types of deals are the new norm. Better start getting used to them. Good for Anaheim for keeping their star center.

And this year he is back over a ppg. Pretty consistent, with last year obviously being an outlier.

I'm still waiting for a response that shows an overall decline. I see one season that, right now, is clearly an anomaly. The other seasons, I see a very consistent level of production, that puts him amongst the very best in the league.

Think you hit the nail on the head. With so many teams trying so many different options at centre this year, this was a fantastic time to be Ryan Getzlaf.

Ugh. Happy to have Getzlaf back but unless Samueli is cool with dishing out more money that's gonna suck for our cap. And Perry's gone. No way they invest 16.5 million dollars in two players. No way is Perry going to take last money for Getzlaf.

As for Malkin, Pens fans are hoping he signs for what Sid did, not what he's worth.
Crosby also averages $10.8 million in the first 8 years of his deal. If you want to compare Getzlaf's contract to Crosby's, you need to use that number. Pens lucked out with getting Crosby signed before contract term was limited to 8 years.

And I dont know if the Ducks can honestly tie up 16.5mil per season on these two guys. They are good but not that good.
And the Ducks will pay him that. Getzlaf/Perry are one of the top duos in the league and have been for a few years now.

damn, Getz is getting paid

regardless, I think he is easily worth that much to the Ducks, even if it is slight market overpayment

I wouldn't be surprised if the Leafs would pay him that much if the could. Getzlaf is amazing. Congrats to him and Ducks fans

He's a bit overpaid but it would be incredibly suicidal for Anaheim or any other team to let him hit the UFA market.

Overpaid, and Perry will go somewhere else and be overpaid.

It will be tight but not impossible but it looks like they will have to lose at least 1 of Selanni,Koivu,Lydman to do it.
Lydman is definitely gone. Teemu will probably retire. Koivu has stated that he doesn't plan on considering retirement until after Sochi. We also have a 1a/1b situation in net with Hiller, too. Cap is not going to be a big issue next year.

Like I said, I think he will return to 70+ point form, its just kind of odd to see such a big contract handed out after a season like that.

Some people act like a player getting $1-2 million more per year than they may be worth is going to screw over a franchise or something..
