Like someone else mentioned, get used to this. No more extra/dead year loop holes. You don't think Anaheim would've went with a 12 year $68 mil deal instead of this if they could?

Take some of the other notorious contracts (actual money next to it);

Hossa first 8 years: $59.3 mil
Luongo first 8 years: $57 mil
B. Richards first 8 years: $59 mil
Kovalchuk first 8 years: $79 mil
Parise first 8 years: $80 mil
Suter first 8 years: $80 mil
Shea Weber first 8 years: $92 million

Getzlaf at $66 million falls in there.

EDIT:

Sidenote - Use the Parise, Weber and Suter deals in terms for Perry. Expect at least a $9.5 mil AAV for him over the 6-7 year deal.

Perry is going to get signed as well. I'm not sure why people are considering this a bad deal. Anaheim isn't the #1 place for FA. We had to paid a little more to keep one of our best players and captain. I think this is overall a good deal. Wish it was less but at this point I'll take it.

I will take your word for it. In my opinion 16.5 mil for 2 players is tough stuff. But we paid 12.2 for the Sedins so maybe its not that out of line.

Would I pay the Sedins 16.5 mil ?

Getzlaff is 5 years younger than the Sedins, so would I sign the Sedins right now for 3 years 8.25mil each? No. I dont.

Don't forget Rakell and Wagner.

This contract is exactly what is to be expected from the lockout. No more fake cap-hits. The cap hits will now always be higher, and the same amount of money is being dished out as other cap circumventing contracts.

The lockout reduced player share to 50%. Thats all that matters. Every team could max out on their caps, and it still wouldnt matter, because all players would have their actual salaries reduced to equal 50%.
you're right at the end of the day if all these big contract equal to more than 50% of revenues, the players salary will be cut but why even get there.

the owners were united when fighting the cba but obviously dont give a damn as soon as they left the negotiations. There back at it. Theyre digging themselves another hole to fill with their tears come next cba.

if ducks didnt give him the money another owner would have which is what the problem is. I hope they players come out of this cba same as last cause whatever little support they had last time they'll lose for next time

That being said, congrats on the huge pay day Getz!
a bit high, but deserving had one bad year dont let that fool you. He's a complete player. Not alot of centers with his production have his skill set

He's a good player. Just hope he doesn't drastically decline after getting this fat contract.

Bit high (would of preferred around 7.5m) but Anaheim had to make this move. Getz had had 4 consecutive PPG seasons before a poor last season, but it looks like he's back to his best.

Couldn't afford to lose Getzlaf at all IMO

That is insane. Good for Ducks fans though. How will this affect them in the future with signing other players I wonder.

I'm curious where you're having trouble. Does his point per game production not actually play a role here? Funny... when it was Crosby it was all people could talk about. Not the numbers he ended up having when the season was over, but the numbers he produced while playing.
Multiple times? So he has had more than 1 90 point season? I don't see one..? If he consistently misses 15 games a year, and ends up in the 70 point range, he isn't a 90 point player. Thats my opinion, yours is different, we will find out at the end of the year wont we? Im finished arguing semantics at this point, good debate though.

so in seasons he doesnt play all games you expect production to be similar to a full season?

Hot damn, no, can't forget them, so no 4th line UFA center. Hell, probably no need for any UFA adds at all. Yeah, this team's rather set for the next little while.

Some around league expect Perry to get more than $9-million AAV on open market. Was always going to be harder for Ducks to re-sign.

Holy ****!

18 45 63

Getzlaf last four years.
25 goals, 91 points
19 goals, 69 points
19 goals, 76 points
11 goals, 57 points

This year their stats are virtually identical.

Of course I am not saying Ribeiro is the same player, and Getz is 4 years younger, I am only saying Ribeiro is going to get paid a lot more than the 5.5 I thought.

Noooo. Because it doesnt matter.

Its 50%. Regardless of what your cap numbers say, you have to pay out 50%. Overpay players, underpay players, pay them exactly right.....none of these matter.

Cap hits can become ridiculous if they want. All it will do is even out the talent on each team. But owners fought for the percentage. They got it. Its 50% of revenues. Things cant get out of hand by signing bad cap-hit contracts, because the dollars paid out is what matters, not the cap hits on a sheet of paper.

This is a good point.

The bad news is that this means Perry will be looking for similar money, in Anaheim or elsewhere.

8.25 for 8 years? Could really hurt Anaheim.

Exactly, I don't get the people overreacting over here.

Lets say Getzlaf was UFA right now... do you think teams like the Leafs, Habs, and some other teams wouldn't give up 8.25M over 7 years?

Only difference is that all cases are front loaded contracts.

I don't think Anaheim spends to the cap every year so 8.25M cap hit is nothing for them.

TL;DR.
