Corey Perry [Read the OP!]

Not a "Value of" thread in the traditional sense...

Assuming Perry tests the market (which seems to be the consensus), my questions are:

- How much will he get paid?
- Which team is going to pay it?

Guessing 9m at 7 years, and enough teams that Perry can go where he wants.

This is pretty much what I suspect also, but I really believe he stays in Anaheim

Unless he is traded to Toronto before the deadline the longest he can sign for is 7 years.

Toronto and Ottawa both have tons of cap space and will be fighting to see who can get the Brinks truck to his house first.

He will get atleast 8 -8.5M a year. Whether or not he is worth that is a different matter.

You can't give him a 8 year deal.
Max years for different team than current team is 7 years.

He's either huge money in Anaheim or huge money to a big market team. Probably slightly less than Getzlaf.

Bob Mac said Perry would like to come closer to home, so his parents and family have an easier time seeing him play, atleast in the eastern time zone. But Perry also isn't a big fan of getting a huge media pressure, but you gotta think that if that was so important why not just stay with the Ducks.

IMO if he leaves, its down to the Habs/Leafs/Sens, and now Det because of their move to the East.

Mtl has been clearing a ton of cap space that they will likely use on scoring, so I'm guess they can offer 7 years 56M, 8M per.

Knowing Jay Feaster, He will offer Perry 7 years and 9 million per but then Perry will go to a better team for less money, Richards 2.0

Talk is that Perry will be looking for north of 8 mil. It's mentioned in a few articles online.

Like I just said in the Wings forum:

Quote:
I really don't think Perry is worth more then 7.5M, maybe even only 7M on a long term deal. His style will general lead to a quicker break down and he never had a huge peak that he will be able to continue his style into his 30s. The comparable to me is an Iginla lite, Perry is consistent but when Iginla fell from his peak years of 80-100 points he became a guy in the 65-85 range.

If Perry falls from his peak scoring he's a 50-65 point guy.I'm not sure that Perry will be able to produce when he's 33,34 or 35, and years 6-7 of that deal could be pretty bad if he is only a 55-70 point guy.
I haven't seen Perry play very much (due to the fact that I'm 1:30 hours ahead of est) but if he breaks down and is only able to produce 55-70 points at the end of his contract while having an 8M+ caphit it could be an ugly cap situation for the team that signs him. Mind you if he can give you 4-5 years of 80+ points while giving you some grit & meanness it's a good deal.

My feeling is he's a 70-80 point guy and isn't worth over 7.5M on a long term deal.

Mind you this is all in theory that the cap isn't at 80M or 85M by the time year 6/7 rolls around.

James Mirtle @mirtle
Some around league expect Perry to get more than $9-million AAV on open market. Was always going to be harder for Ducks to re-sign.

For reference.

Especially after seeing his teammate get $8.25M, and I have to imagine he considers himself a better player.

Ottawa 9 million for 7 years. He joins Spezza and Karlsson as the core and they still have 31 million to re-sign everyone else.
