Isn't this similar to e. Staals deal? Not sure what the fuzz is about.

That's some ridiculous money Anaheim is throwing around.

Wouldn't surprise me, people value goal scorers over centers who pile up apples.

Personally, i'll take an elite center over a wing any day.

Cap room yes but actual cash? Can they spend 100+ million on 2 guys cause you gotta think perry can get close to the same deal

Yep. Getzlaf is back to his usual dominant self. The guy has one off year and HFBoards starts crapping on the guy. Never mind the fact that he was playing on a bargain of a contract for the past 5 seasons. He's our captain and we gave him fair value.

Get used to these type of cap hits because those front-loaded contracts with a bunch of bogus years tacked on at the end are done.

I don't know if it effects Perry outside of Anaheim. Anaheim wont pay Perry more than Getzlaf, other teams will.

I understand the Ducks had no choice but to pony up but Getzlaf and his agent demanded WAAAAYYYYY to much money for what he is really worth. No hometown discount was required but to rob the only organization youve ever played for blind is really low. I guarantee the Ducks will regret this in 3-4 years...maybe less.

Holy overpayment... Getzlaf is good, but he isn't 8m+ good..

And there is no way he gets a long term, 8m+ per year contract in the open market.

As long as Getzlaf keeps performing like he is this year (and the few years before last), he's worth the money.

That cap hit is horrid

Signing Toews + Kane is looking like nightmare for Hawks downline with this type of overpayment as comparable

I hope Nonis gives Perry 9M...If you want to play Carlyle hockey, who better to get than Corey Perry?

This is not a bad deal for Anaheim at all...what was Anaheim going to do with the 8.25M if he walked? Nothing...good will come from 8.25M in the open market..

Yeah, big, physical #1 centers never really get much money thrown at them in the open market.

Only concern is with his age. With his style of play, will he still be effective durring the latter years of the contract? But for the next 3-4 years, I don't think the contract is that bad.

Yup, insane overpayment. Remind me why we had the lockout again.

Big power forwards wear down faster than most. Good luck lugging that 6'4, 230lbs frame across 200' 5 years from now. In time, Ovie may look golden compared to this.

Well put.

Doesn't say much for Getzlaf's character that he wouldn't atleast give them a tiny bit of a discount to help them bring in other talent.

If this is the new going rate for first line centres, Crosby's deal is looking insanely nice right now (it was always a discount, but that was when the average was closer to 7 million).

Honestly, that's only $.75-1M more than I'd have projected him to get. The Ducks absolutely could not afford to lose Getzlaf over chump change like that. Good signing.

Unfortunately I can't say I'm shocked that Getzlaf is getting this contract. If the Ducks were able to tack on 6 more years at a lesser salary it would have likely reduced the cap hit to the 6-7 million range.

This 7/8 year limit will see top line players get inflated cap hits and with the rising minimum salary the loss will be taken by the bottom 6 forwards and bottom pairing defensemen that would have made 1-3 million under the old system.

This contract is exactly what is to be expected from the lockout. No more fake cap-hits. The cap hits will now always be higher, and the same amount of money is being dished out as other cap circumventing contracts.

The lockout reduced player share to 50%. Thats all that matters. Every team could max out on their caps, and it still wouldnt matter, because all players would have their actual salaries reduced to equal 50%.
Thats not the way they want to SPIN it. They had a preconceived idea that the lock out was the 'owners fawlt

So now they hunt for any angle to prove the new CBA is 'wrong' somehow.

You wanted Getzlaff to get 98 mil for 14years instead ?
