Stupid Question:

Wouldn't the Ducks be smartest to resign Perry, keep him for the run, and then try to ship out Ryan during the offseason? That way they get back maximum value.

I mean, that seems to be the obvious thing to do. Is it just me?

Cheers,

Dan-o

That assumes Perry wants to resign. It seems he wants to test the UFA market.

Cant sign him longer than 7 years unless you do a sign and trade and 7.3 wont even come close to getting to done. Toronto and Ottawa will both offer more than that and probably a few other teams too.

If you're a goal scorer, wouldn't you want a guy like Getzlaf to pass you the puck?

The only comparable situations, as far as I can tell, would be to play with Spezza or Tavares. NYI ain't happening.

I'll believe him testing the market when I see it. It makes all the sense in the world for Anaheim to pay to hold onto him.

Cheers,

Is this guy even worth 8M? Strikes me as more of a 65-75 point guy with one big year mixed in. Very Lecavalier-esque except Vinny had a couple more good years.

Perry is great, don't get me wrong, but Getzlaf stirs the drink.

Yup. I think Perry/Getzlaf have been together ever since they were drafted. Right now they are on the same page every time they are on the ice. It would be a night and day difference when he gets someone else.

Interesting possibility with Perry could be sign and trade scenario like we see in NBA. Could get eight instead of seven year deal that way.

I said that "he" considers himself the better player, because he won the Hart trophy a few years ago, among other things. So he deserves more money. (Again, in his mind)

I completely agree that Getzlaf is more important, as a fan of a team that is built on centers.

Wouldn't this be really bad for the ducks? If perry were to retire early?

With the Getzlaf signing I think Perry is priced out of the Habs range

Yeah we are on the same page then, but I can definitely see what you are saying with what Perry thinks in his head.

Im not sure what the cap situations look like for some of the eastern teams, but Ottawa seems like a reasonable destination...seems like they can pay him what he wants, and there's a fair bit of talent on the Sens these days, so he'd be able to compete for the cup on that team in the coming years.

Then of course there's Philly... just because their GM always seems to like to make a splash.

i can see kessel for perry if:

anaheim is willing to give perry what he wants, but perry wants to be traded elsewhere
then they would gladly give kessel what he wants

in other words it's not about the money

plus the leafs would need the assursnce that they can get perry signed a.s.a.p

That would be interesting. The return for a signed Perry, on a long-term contract, would be... fairly significant.

Perry knows Anaheim wont pay him more than Getzlaf. Anaheim was "gracious" enough on his last contract to match Getzlaf, when Getzlaf was a vastly superior player at the time. If he wants north of $8.25 he has to look elsewhere.

I'm also assuming Anaheim signed Getzlaf to this deal with Perry in mind. Whether they plan on re-signing him or not, they set the bar for him within the organization at $8.25M IMO.

You've named 6 guys, a number of whom are questionable as better playmakers. That qualifies as a lot, these days?
