Friedman's 30 thoughts:

4. The Flames failed to land O'Reilly, but that doesn't mean they're finished trying to make moves. They aren't happy with what they've got, particularly the lack of size. That's why they traded for Brian McGrattan, but it would be a surprise if that was all. The interesting one is Jay Bouwmeester.

5. The defenceman has a no-trade clause on a deal with one more year at $6.6 million US (cash) and $6.68 million (cap hit). It's a big number, but defencemen are so hard to find. It is believed that there are some good teams interested in him. Here's the question for Bouwmeester: he will be 30 when he hits the market. If he goes to a better club and performs well, how much more does he get? And, is that kind of thinking important to him?

I'm tired of everyone thinking we'll get anything of value for Sarich. We could have gotten a 2nd/3rd 2 yrs ago. Now we'd be lucky to get a 5th, he's been scratched for the majority of the year, has cement legs and hands, and has been making terrible choices with the puck. Sure there seems to be a market for dmen, which is why I say a 5th at best, Roman Hamrlik is on waivers, and people think we can get a 2nd or 3rd for Sarich?

No, people don't think that. Flamesarmstron22 thinks that.

Cool NHL 13 trades. Doesn't seem like a very stacked team though...

Who needs that hack anymore. He clearly isn't a solid player, who despite learning the NHL game, is at a near 0.5PPG pace. And despite being one of our more creative forwards, lets just plug in random players with skillets that mesh in video games. To top it off, we still have comeaubon the team. Smh.

I don't know how NHL13 rates him, but apparently Ramo has already proven he can shoulder the NHL starting role lol, I'm a huge Ramo supporter, but I'm also a realist and Ramo needs Kiprusoff to guide him into that role.

If teams are picking up Kostopoulus off waivers why haven't we thrown Comeau on waivers yet

Because who in their right mind would waste an extra contract on Comeau? At least if we trade him for TKO its a 1-for-1 deal.

No both suck just waive Comeau and we don't have to deal with either.

I would think Jones has more value than Comeau. So I don't like our chances of him getting picked up. I'd still give it a shot though seeing as TKO got picked up.

I don't care if he gets pick off or not, I would just send him the heat and we don't have to worry about it. Also NJ can't trade TKO as he is a waiver pick up he would have to be put back on waivers first.

Just posting what I read:

http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/cgy130306.html

"...It has been widely speculated that if the team cannot make a push for the playoffs, they'll begin moving some key pieces before the April 3 trade deadline.

Defensemen Jay Bouwmeester, Cory Sarich and Anton Babchuk could be available, while forwards Mike Cammalleri, Curtis Glencross, Tanguay, Lee Stempniak, Matt Stajan and captain Jarome Iginla will attract plenty of interest..."

I find The Fourth Period to be pretty reliable with their information. I found it interesting they would list guys like GlenX, Tanguay, and Stajan though?

Said they'll attract interest, not that the Flames will necessarily entertain the idea of moving them. Not unless the offer is simply too much to refuse.

But I like how they say Babchuk *could* be available.

Sounds like Carl Soderberg is coming over for Boston. Possible piece in an Iginla deal.

Also more speculation about Blues wanting a LH dman to go with Pieterangelo and Shattenkirk. Bouw or Gio of course come to mind.

Of course this is assuming we fall out of the playoff race (as I know someone will remind me that we are in the race for the playoffs)

If we could get Cole + a nice piece for the future I would move Gio regardless of if we are in a playoff spot, given how fast people jumped on Butler for being a give away machine and being in over his head Gio sees less 5v5 time against top lines than Butler did last year and more pp time and has a giveaway rate of compared to .71 per game Butler's of .74 per game not mention not even playing physically.

I am not saying Butler > Gio its not even close but it is clear that Gio is not the defensemen people made him out to be the time to sell is now while his value is high.

We've been saying this all season, but honestly, the next three game are crucial for the Flames. It'll decide which direction we go in; playoff mode or rebuild mode.

Agreed on basically everything, if we could get something like Cole and Rattie or a 1st then I would be pretty happy with that.
