After much deliberation, it pains me to say that the Panthers are going to hold on to the 32nd pick. We could not decide between the two offers given to us, and we would much rather stay where we are than make a bad decision.

Sorry.

I think Sam Gagner has been decent this year, there are many other things that haven't worked though. Before the season started I thought they would be way better than they have been, even predicted them to get into the Stanley Cup finals in my wildcard prediction...

^finals already? a little ambitious, but most Oil fans were hoping at least for a playoff birth, but i guess it's still a little premature for that, they look like they have a lot to learn still.

It was just a sort of a joke which could happen only in extreme circumstances, but I really was rooting for a post-lockout rematch series from '06, Oilers vs 'Canes.

In couple years though, Oilers should realistically be fighting for the Cup if they don't screw things up.

Any last minute trade offers on either the 8th (Colorado) or 9th (Calgary) picks? Will be making both selections within half an hour.

The Colorado Avalanche are proud to select, from The London Knights...

Nikita Zadorov!

We here at Colorado feel that Zadarov is not only the best defenseman available, but is also the most NHL ready defender in the entire draft. His size and amazing defensive ability were extremely appealing, and we think that he has some hidden offensive talent as well. Not only will he be a key part of our team next year, but we hope to add him to our core for many years to come.

Quote:
Nikita is a physical specimen who combines it with a very good skill set. Strong, powerful stride which he uses to his advantage defensively to move ahead or offensively to jump into the play. He's physical and will assert himself. When he does, he is capable of stopping opponents 'cold in their tracks.' Has a big shot and it can overwhelm goalies. He has really developed his game in London and is looking increasingly comfortable in all facets of his play. He has 'huge' upside and when you assess his overall game, he may be the type of defenseman, teams will 'step up' to select in the draft.
Draft Results
Round 1 (8th) - Nikita Zadorov, Defender
Round 2 (38th) -
Round 3 (69th) -
Round 4 (99th) -
Round 5 (129th) -
Round 6 (152nd) -

The Philadelphia Flyers are proud to select, from HC TPS Turku...

Rasmus Ristolainen!

We here at Philadelphia think very, very highly of this young, extremely talented defender. He can do it all in every zone, whether it be to break up a play, throw a hit, or score a big goal. His all-around game, work ethic, and compete level are all top-notch and will fit in very well in Philly, and he just so happens to fit an organizational need as well. We do believe that he could end up being the #1 defender we need, and that he'll blossom into one of the true stars in the NHL. We're very happy to welcome Rasmus to the Flyers' organization.

Quote:
Rasmus has very good offensive skills with an excellent shot. He jumps into the attack and even initiates the attack if he feels it's necessary. He will play physical, and if he makes contact, you are fully aware of that as an opponent. When the game becomes challenging and the moments important, he is ready, willing and capable of taking a leading role to make a positive difference. A player who is more than capable of being a top defenceman. The description 'workhorse defenceman' comes to mind when you assess his potential.
Draft Results
Round 1 (9th) - Rasmus Ristolainen, Defender
Round 4 (100th) -
Round 5 (134th) -
Round 6 (164nd) -
Round 7 (194th) -

Glad I got both guys I wanted. Honestly spent about half an hour trying to figure out which team would take who. I think this is pretty reasonable though, as Philly needs more of an all-around guy while Colorado needs a big shut-down defender to pair up with Johnson (I'm not very sold on Siemens). I'm happy with both picks, and I do think they're the BPAs as well, outside of maybe a certain Russian.

What's the deal with CSS rankings? Do these people watch the games?? They have Zadorov at 30th in North America.... yet Carrier at 14th? Nothing against Carrier, but I take Zaddy over him 10000/10000..

I'm curious. How close did you get to guessing the order the picks fell in.

Not sure whats up with that. To me there is no question Zadorov is better then Carrier at this stage in the game. Wounder why he is rated so low.

I meant which team of mine would get Ristolainen and which would get Zadorov, sorry for the ambiguity.
