I don't want to trade Patrice Bergeron (amongst many others in Boston) and I don't care what they could get, because I don't want them traded!

The poll on the Leafs page says otherwise. As of right now, 133 voted to trade him, 107 voted not to.

I haven't voted on that page....reason....don't know what we'd be trrading him for. If the deal is right, i'd trade anyone.

Decent center and give Kessel some actual drive and he has the talent. Both however are something not coming to the Leafs anytime soon

It's a risk for us, but if Kessel remains a 30-35 Goal-scorer and can mesh with Spezza we have our first scoring line. The gamble here is that without Alfredsson as a mentor around him, Silf might go through a longer adaptation period in Toronto, plus media pressure insanity since he'd be the "One we got for Kessel'.

Not sure Murray would do this trade though, he'd probably try to offer Dzyurzynski, Noesen and a 2nd. :p

Then there is the cup half full version: over the previous four seasons, no one in the league has scored more goals than Phil except Ovechkin, Stamkos and Perry (Nash and Kessel are tied).

Yes.

I was surprised to see a couple of different posters say it would take a #1 center and more to get Kessel.

I don't think that is at all realistic. A top line center is worth more than Kessel never mind something added to that.

Kessel is a good winger but let's not go overboard on his value.

No interest in that floater. Probably will ask 7-7.5 per in next contract. Laughable.

Joe Thornton or Patrick Marleau.

Gives Kadri time to develop exactly how Krejci did behind Savard.

Nick Backstrom.

Trade the #4 Overall that year for the #5 overall. Toronto adds but the basis for the swap of two young players that are the same age is there.

Yes.
thats not really true Kovalchuk 152, Marleau 149, Iginla 142 and Jeff Carter 136 all better then Kessel's 135, you also have guys like Gaborik, Parise, Corsby and Malkin who would have more goals had there not been for injuries, so while your point still stands that he's one of the top goal scorers he's near the bottom of the top 10, and he doesn't have enough variety to his game to score 50. basically no one timer and doesn't score dirty goals. all he's got is his wrist shot. that makes it hard for him to be a 50 goal scorer.

They simply cannot have made the trade they made, and then lose him for nothing. That would be completely irrevocably unacceptable to the fanbase.

Dreger, whose inside information I actually trust, especially with the Leafs since he's Nonis' cousin, has come out and said something along the lines of (paraphrased) "Leafs management isn't fooled by their current position in the standings. They know there are several key holes on the roster that need to be filled, that teams are calling about Kessel, and that Nonis is listening, even if he's not actively shopping him". There are also the rumours that Nonis initially was strongly against the trade to acquire him, and didn't think he was a guy to build around.

Now do I think he'll be traded this season? Probably not. But I don't think it's off the table either. IMO Nonis is willing to move him, just has to see the right deal. And that doesn't mean the equivalent of what the Leafs gave up, because that's obviously not going to happen.
Pretty much.

Regardless of the Leafs' position in the standings, Kessel really needs to go now, especially if it's true that he's begun to demand $7 million/year (or more) for his next contract.

Another good reason to trade him by this season's deadline is avoid the hassle of having to deal with him after his modified/limited NTC comes into effect for next season. By then, Kessel will hold alll the cards and could easily decide to walk at the end of next season for nothing if he feels like testing the FA market. There's no sense to take that risk, especially if he's not in the Leafs' long-term plans.

A third good reason for moving Kessel now is to take better advantage of this summer's draft to stock the prospect pool with some high-end draftees (of which the Leafs are in desperate need).

Kessel's trade value is still relatively high, so Nonis should take full advantage of it, regardless of the consequences.

Been my dream for a long time. End his career in the NE (or whatever cluster fluff the NHL is putting together with this new garbage)

Lupul Thorton Perry????

But I like Kessel too much

Pretty decent offer.

It's something I'd consider if we're dealing Kessel, but if Kessel was going to Ottawa, I very like Stone and I'd like to have him in the deal.

Since when did luongo/schneider hold the same value as the latter offer, lol.

I could see both teams being happy with that swap and Toronto giving Kadri the years to play as a 2nd line center for awhile before taking over the #1 role. Something about Thornton, Lupul and JVR...

God help him if/when they made the playoffs

he has unrightfully taken a lot of flack for not being a playoff performer, i don't buy it, not everyone can win a cup, there's some luck involved in all that skill needed to win
